On Monday, May 23, the Barons headed over to Lakewood in the first round of CIF playoffs.

The Barons boys varsity team played against Lakewood in the first round of CIF. Playing hard and hitting the game running, the Barons fought to and succeeded in earning their spot in the next round.

Throughout the beginning of the game, the Barons kept on a hard defense, preventing the other team from making a single score and taking control of the game. The players went all in from the start, with a rolling offense and defense.

By the top of the fourth, the Barons managed to pull ahead with a 5-0 lead over Lakewood. Lakewood played a tough opponent, trying to snag a few points to keep Fountain Valley at bay, but the boys managed to pull through. By the top of the sixth inning, the Barons were leading a score of 6-0.

Lakewood managed to slide in a point, but the Barons refused to let them get any higher than that. Keeping to their tough offense and defense, the boys finished Lakewood off with a score of 9-1, securing their spot in the second round of play offs.

Following the win, on Friday, May 27, the Barons faced off against Santa Margarita in the second round of CIF playoffs.

By the second inning, no score had been made from either side, resulting in a back and froth play to take control of the game. But in the top of the second, the Barons managed to score and take the lead 3-0.

The onslaught continued, and with the offense rolling, the Barons added another score at the top of the third, taking the lead to 5-0. But despite the promising beginning, San Margarita fought back, bringing the score 5-3.

Fighting to keep their lead, the Barons raised the score 7-3, but in the bottom of the sixth, San Margarita came back, bringing the score to 7-8.

By the end of the game, San Margarita managed to pull through and keep their score, leaving the Barons at a loss by 7-8.

“It’s unfortunate that our season had to end like that,” said Daniel Rosica (‘14). “But we’re proud of the great season that we had. I’m going to miss playing with all my teammates.”
