From May 12 to June 6, choir director Kevin Tison held auditions for the school choirs. Auditions for Concert Choir, Troubadours and Les Chanteurs were held. The auditions involved filling out several forms depending on the choir a student tries out for and were held in the choir room.

For auditions, students selected songs to sing to Tison and had to do a series of vocal practices during the auditions as well. Those that did well at Troubadour auditions returned for several more rounds of auditions.

Martin Tran (‘15), said, “Round one was okay… I guess everyone did well because only a few people got cut in round two, and most went to round three,”

Many people auditioned with only a few select students making it to Troubadours and 60 to 80 students allowed in Concert Choir, a including current Concert Choir members. However, space in Les Chanteurs was unlimited and available for intermediate level singers. Students that weren’t a part of any of the choirs this year were still able to audition, but priority was given to previous choir students.

Current Les Chanteurs member Pamela Nguyen (‘15) stated, “I decided to audition for concert choir because I was in Les Chanteurs and it was one step up.”

Auditions varied depending on which choir a student tried out for, but all auditions had a section for vocalization and warm-ups, a solo piece, tonal memory, and sight reading.

The results for Troubadours were posted June 6.

Calvin Chau (’15), who did not make Troubadours, and stated, “Although, making Troubs was a goal for me, I’m still glad that I can still be in the vocal music program because choir is really fun to me. I’m just really interested to see and hear all of these Troubadours, especially the new ones that made it!”

Students who got into the choir they auditioned for expressed surprise and excitement to learn the results of the auditions.

Warren Nguyen (’15) said,”I felt so ecstatic and shocked [that I made Troubadours]… I guess you could say I [am] pretty proud and humbled”
