On June 12, Fountain Valley held their graduation ceremony for the class of 2013-2014 at Orange Coast College. The ceremony began at 5 p.m.

ASB President, Tricia Vuong, led the graduates and audience into the pledge of allegiance for the last time and principal Chris Herzfeld welcomed everyone to the ceremony. The evening was accompanied by performances from the Fountain Valley Royal Regiment as well as speeches from graduating seniors Martine Caponera, Becca Frankeny, and Nikki Tran.

Martine spoke about taking risks in the future and learning from failures, and Frankeny shared what she learned from being a senior at FVHS. Tran centered her speech on the impact of the selfie and self-image  on the lives of the generation, ending it with a selfie taken with the class of 2014.

After the speeches, the graduates received their diplomas. The ceremony concluded with the senior class throwing their caps into the air in celebration of their accomplishment.

“[Graduating] is definitely bittersweet, I think most people can say that,” stated Amanda Bui (‘14). “It’s fun that we’re graduating, but we’re leaving behind a lot of our friends.”

Friends and family who could not obtain a ticket to the ceremony came and waited outside the gates for their graduates to walk out. Many of the seniors were presented with flowers, leis, and posters from those who came to celebrate their achievement.

“I felt nostalgic because [the Class of 2014] was such a great class and I’ve had such great memories with them,”  said Ruth Nguyen (‘16).  “They will be missed for their creativity and their way of making everything seem more fun and exciting,”

After the ceremony, the graduates spent time taking pictures and talking to their family, friends and former classmates.

Stephanie Sturner (‘14) stated, “I’m excited to see what is next for me and just holding onto the memories shared here.”
