School’s out—what now? 5 things to try this summer

By Demetria Ma

School is finally out, and you have all day, every day, to venture out and carry out your plans for spending time with friends. But inevitably, you slip into the welcoming arms of your tangled bedsheets and Netflix, forming an intimate relationship with your TV, fridge, and bed. Before you know it, summer will be over and school, just around the corner.

Don’t fall prey to the summer slump! Here are some fun ways to jazz up your summer with your best buds and maybe even discover new interests.

1. Try your hand at being a hostess

Look up some fun, new recipes to try out, and host a nice luncheon with your some of your closest friends.

Or, gather a group of friends and have each person make their favorite sandwich, and swap them around at a picnic in the park.

2. DIY your life

Seen cool DIYs that you’ve always wanted to try? Kill two birds with one stone by sprucing up your room with your own handmade decor.

3. Go green

Grow your own colorful vegetable garden with some seeds and fertilizer from your local nursery.

Don’t have the room or patience for outdoor plants? Try creating little terrariums using small succulents and Mason jars to add a pop of green to your home.

4. Mystery hike

With a few hiking buddies, compile a checklist of things to look for on the trail to make your hike more interesting.

5. Stay-cation

To enjoy a mini “getaway,” break out your gear and set up camp on your back lawn. Since you’ll be just a few steps away from your home, you don’t have to worry about your lack of survival skills. Don’t forget to bust out some good campfire songs and the fixings for yummy s’mores.
