Students provide organization advice for the new year

With a new school year beginning in earnest, one of the easiest ways to have a great nine months is to be organized. Organization helps clear your head so you can focus on more important things–like homework and studying.

Binders are your greatest tool when trying to get organized. Generally, a two inch binder will suffice for all things school related.  A binder will help to organize papers, tests, lined paper, and other important documents.

“Foldables really come in handy, especially ones that have pockets on both sides of the folder. You can organize them by class or any format that helps you keep track of all your papers,” said Katherine Hoang (’17).

Everyone is sometimes in a rush and just stuffs everything in their binder and leaves the mess to deal with later on.  To make sure your binder doesn’t get too out of hand, pick a day to re-organize. Take a day every week to remove any papers that are not needed anymore, or are taking up too much space in your binder.

Keep in mind that school supplies tend to be cheaper during the back-to-school season. Try to stock up on good quality supplies while they are inexpensive, so you can use them throughout the year.

To organize writing utensils, keep a pencil bag or pouch in your backpack. You can also keep scissors, pencil sharpeners, erasers, extra lead for mechanical pencils, and calculators in your pencil case.

Agendas and planners are also very useful in keeping track of assignments, tests, and projects. They can be divided by subject to help keep track of homework in all your classes.

“My tips are to have dividers, to you know, divide each subject, in like English, math, whatever, and you could have all your work in each section.  Also, you should have a planner to write all your you know, homework, and assignments and everything down to keep everything organized on a day to day basis,” freshman Vanessa Luong said.
