This past Saturday, Fountain Valley Royal Regiment participated in a division-wide competition, battling against many others at Warren High School.

The Royal Regiment has been hard at work for weeks, perfecting every aspect of their show.

Jill Guerrero (‘16), a member of Color Guard, said, “[the competition] was fun…[Color Guard] won Sweepstakes which is basically the color guard that wins the overall competition, not just in that certain division that they are placed in.”

Guerrero felt honored after winning the highest award at the team’s first competition.

“I was really proud of us because after we performed, our coach said we did fantastic. We felt great about that because it’s difficult for him to gives us compliments like that; he usually gives us a lot of constructive criticism. It was really good for our first competition.”

The musicians of FVRR also performed well, earning first place in their division.

Drum Major Domenic Desantis said, “I think we did great. We achieved what we set out for and got first in our division. It’s true that we didn’t do as well as we all hoped but if we had more time to practice I believe that we would have done extremely well, but still I’m proud that we got first in our division.”

The team believes that with more practice, they will be able to place even higher and keep their winning streak from last year.

“We performed the best we could last Saturday. We have a lot to go and a lot to live up to our prolific season last year,”  baritone horn soloist Danny Jackson (’15) said. “We performed well. We have nowhere to go but up from now on.”
