The Royal Regiment crushed the competition, which was composed of some of America’s finest bands, at Sierra Vista High School in Las Vegas, this weekend.

The FVRR won an overall first place, and multiple sectional awards, including Outstanding Music, Outstanding Percussion, Outstanding Visual, Outstanding General Effect, and Outstanding Color Guard.  Numerically, the FVRR scored a strong 88.66, much higher than any of its competitors.

The band’s performance of The Ten Mile Day was relatively routine, other than the long drive which was quite longer than ten miles, but the bandos definitely didn’t lose their train of thought on the field.

“As the band and I got there, it was the same-old-same-old.  Unload, set up, put on uniforms, practice, and then get ready to push our instruments on to the field.  The field was dry, but band still goes on.  We won prelims and then finals.” Vivian Truong (’17) said.

Besides the successful competition, the bandos enjoyed themselves in Las Vegas.

“I enjoyed sleeping alongside my friends.  It got pretty crazy as we were up at 4 a.m. watching anime.” Dennis Le (’17) said.

For dinner, the band members were able to enjoy Las Vegas’s famous eateries and attractions.

“We went to New York New York for dinner.  My section, the front ensemble, went to go eat pizza.  It was huge and could feed ten people,” Truong said.

Overall, the FVRR has hammered its way to victory, and is on the right track to a great season finish.

“It was successful and a whole lot of fun,” flutest Hannah Galvez-Arango (’17), said.
