This year, Senior Commission has decided to turn the annual Spring Dance into a Sadie Hawkins Dance, where contrary to the tradition of guys inviting girls, the role is reversed with girls asking guys.

The Sadie Hawkins dance is galaxy themed and will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the school gym on March 13.

“Every year, Senior Commission has planned the Spring Dance, and it has become a tradition for us,” said President Manuel Santiago (’15). “There is a lot that Senior Commission puts into the dance, so I’m excited to see it all come together.”

For the past few years, previous Senior Classes attempted to plan a Sadie Hawkins, but due to complications, it had changed to just a Spring Dance. Senior Commission has been hosting the Spring Dance for about seven years, but Fountain Valley hasn’t had a Sadie Hawkins dance during the four years that the current seniors have attended high school.

Although the dance is being advertised as a Sadie Hawkins, it’s not mandatory for females to ask males. Students are also encouraged to attend even without a date or with friends. Pre-sale tickets will be sold for $6  during the week of the dance in the financial office. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $8.

“As the class of 2015 senior Commission, we want to be the first to actually put on a Sadies,” said  Moni Awad (’15). “Though we decided on a Sadies, we also want to emphasize to the FV Barons , that it’s still ok to go to the dance even if a girl doesn’t ask. It’s ok to go with friends or a date.”

The attire for the dance is casual, though students are encouraged to wear neon, white, or glow-in-the-dark clothing as there will be black lights. Desserts from the Sno Bird truck will be available for purchase. Students will have access to unlimited pictures, props, and photo strips in a photo booth. No clearance is required. Proceeds from the dance contribute to the funds for the Class of 2015 senior activities at the end of the year.

“I believe this will be a very cool and successful dance, because so much effort is being put in to it,” said Awad. “Mrs. Orr, Ms. Martinez, the board, and the members of senior Commission are working very hard to present an event that will be fun and enjoyable to all FV Barons. “
