Barons varsity baseball went against the Edison chargers in a cutthroat game last Friday, Apr. 24. Both teams played their hardest, but in the end it was the Barons that reigned supreme.

The last home game against Edison wasn’t exactly what they expected, so this time the Barons were prepared for whatever the Chargers had in store.

“It was a pretty good game. It just came down to who buckled down at the end and finished strong,” said Justin Mazzone (‘17).

At the bottom of the second inning, Pierson Loska (’15) made a hit allowing him to make a home run. This gave the Barons their first point and put them at a tie with Edison.

Both teams fought to take the lead, however by the bottom of the third inning, Edison had already gone ahead by two points. The players did their best to catch up to their rivals throughout the next few innings. Thankfully, they broke even at the bottom of the sixth inning and were tied again. The game ended at the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Barons made their last home run, thus winning the game.

Michael Murphy (‘16) made a hit enabling two players to run at one point in the game. At the bottom of the sixth inning, Edison faked a tag, causing Travis Burleson (‘17) to slide on to third base when he could have gone on to home base and made a run.

“The double play in the fifth inning [was my favorite moment],” said William Aguilar (‘15).

Burleson, the team’s pitcher, came in and threw his all contributing to the team’s victory. The defense the team put forward throughout the entire game was definitely one of their strongest qualities.

“It was a well fought battle,” said Loska.
