MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30th:

Hey Barons are you are ready!! Tonight your Mighty Barons take on Edison in the Battle of the Bell!  All those with student tickets, make sure you bring your ASB/Super Baron Card with you. Gates open at 5:00 and the kick off is at 7:00pm.  Go Barons, beat Edison!!

Congratulations to Lady Barons Tennis! Hanh Pham won the Sunset League Championship for the 2nd year! She beat Newport Harbor’s #1 players.  Ruth Nguyen& Vivian Le our captains took 3rd place in team doubles.  For JV’s, freshman Charisse Vu also took the Sunset League Championship; in JV Doubles, Jane Nguyen & Vivian Le took 2nd place.  It was an amazing day for Lady Barons Tennis! We are proud of you!!

There will be a mandatory meeting for any boys interested in trying out for the golf team this Monday at lunch in Coach Keyser’s room, room 107.

The FVHS Theatre Department will be presenting The Crucible, Arthur Miller’s play about the Salem Witch Trials, November 4th through November 7th in room 309.  Tickets will go on sale later this week at www.fvhstheatre.com.

FVHS Vocal Music Program will present the first concert of the year with their Fall Preview Concert on Wednesday, November 4th at 6:45pm.  The concert will be held in the Robert B. Moore Theater at Orange Coast College.  Please come and support all of the choirs as they give a taste of what this year has in store.  Ticket Prices are $15.00 Premium seating, $8.00 general-adult and $5.00 general students and alumni.

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28th

Congrats to the surf team on the following achievements versus Huntington Beach high school on Tuesday October 27th:  3rd Place finishes went to Luke Wells and Giovanna Scandone in Longboard and Riley Donohoo in Men’s Shortboard.   In Men’s bodyboard, Ashton Mann took 1st, Riley Donohoo 2nd and Timmy Knowles 3rd.

Congratulations to all three levels of Girls Tennis for beating Huntington.  The Lady Barons are currently tied for 2nd place in the Sunset League.  Great job Ladies!

Bell Game T-Shirts will be on sale today at lunch outside the Activities Office.  Cost is $10.00

Come on out to watch the Varsity Baseball team in their 2nd annual Halloween costume game tomorrow at 2:00pm on the varsity baseball field.  The Boosters will be selling Krispy Kreme Donuts for $1.00.

Seniors, if you are applying to ANY college thru Common APP you must, MUST order your transcript from Parchment.com.  Create an account on Parchment and send your transcript from FVHS to Common App using your Common App ID#.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Karathanas our Registrar and Parchment expert.  She will be in the Career Center today at lunch if you have any questions.

Congratulations to golfers Melissa Kittredge and Breanna Bui for earning 2nd team all Sunset League honors. Both girls played well during the season and at league finals to earn this honor.  Way to go ladies.

Warm up your body and come out to the bowl at lunch today to receive a FREE yoga lesson.  At the end of the lesson, there will be a contest, so don’t miss out!  If balance isn’t your thing, then come out to the bowl tomorrow again at lunch to test your other abilities for a relay race!

The Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County sponsors a competition through Mock Trial and FVHS has had winning students in the county who went on to compete at the state level championships multiple times now. You do not need to be enrolled in art or journalism classes-just be interested. If you are interested in participating in the Mock Trial Courtroom Artist or Courtroom Journalist competition, see Ms. LaFramboise in Room 131. Applications are due Thursday, October 29!

Attention Barons, Edison Bell Game Tickets are on sale today for Students and Staff Only.  Students can get their ticket and purchase up to 4 additional general admission tickets.  ASB and Super Baron card holders need to bring their ID to the Financial Office to purchase their ticket for $3.00.  All other students will pay $8.00.  Bell Game Ticket Prices are Adults $8.00, Children, 12 and under, $3.00.  Tickets will go on sale to the General Public beginning Monday, October 26th.  All tickets must be purchased at the Financial Office, tickets will not be sold at the game.  CASH ONLY, No checks!

Bell Game T-Shirts are on sale today at the Financial Office for $10.00 or you can buy one tonight at the Football game or next week at the Glow Show.

Yesterday, on the Great George Berg Field, the Freshman Football Team beat the Marina Vikings 42-2. Thank you to all the students and faculty that came yesterday and support their effort.  Go Barons and One Heartbeat!

Congratulations to Girls Tennis on their sweep of Edison!  Varsity won 15 to 3, JV won 12-6 and Frosh/Soph beat the Chargers 14 to 4.  Great job ladies!

This week is Red Ribbon Week, Barons! If you missed today’s Wake Up Wednesday for pajamas, don’t worry because tomorrow is Check Yourself Thursday so come in your best checkered or plaid shirts. Then, wear red on Friday to spread awareness against underage drinking and drugs. There are also Lunchtime Activities in the bowl so come and participate!

Congratulations to our Marching Band who conquered all competitors at Saturday’s competition. The band won the overall competition, taking the sweepstakes award for the night, as well as awards for Best Percussion, best Color Guard, best Visual, and best Music. Way to go band!  Your mighty FVRR will compete again this weekend at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach at the Bands of America regional competition.

Great job to a young group of Cross Country Boys Varsity runners who stepped up for the team which included Junior’s Jonathan Guevara and William Messick, Freshman Kevin Zimmerle, Sophomores Tanner Grohmann, Brendan Hicks, Nico Barber, and Jacob Ferris. Lastly, William Hua competed in the Sweepstakes race as an individual.  William finished in 15th place overall among the state’s best runners across all divisions and his time of fifteen minutes and twelve seconds for three miles is the 2nd fasted in school history for senior boys.  William was also the fastest representative from the Sunset league and is in line to win the individual title in two weeks.

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Cross Country team for finishing second at the Orange County Championships. The Barons beat both Edison and Los Al for the second time this season. They are undefeated in League with the Sunset League Championships coming up in two weeks. Freshman Bella Guerra earned All Orange County honors finishing in the top 7 among all freshman runners in the county.

Congratulations to our first B4L winners of the year!  They each won a $25 gift card of their choice.  Benjamin Minch, Francisco Nguyen, Kimberly Melnick, Catherine McClatchie, Kevin Le, Jolene Dang, Amy Tran, Bryant Le, Jaden Cleaver and Stacey Hall.  Dropped your card in the raffle drum but didn’t win this time?  No problem. Your card is still in there for the next drawing on Friday, November 13th. Keep earning those stickers and showing your Baron pride!

Congratulations to our “Homecoming Hunters”,  your Mighty Barons Football team on their victory over the Los Alamitos Griffins 20 – 7.  The Barons have won 5 in a row!  Great job Barons!

Congratulations to our September Boys and Girls Athletes of the Month, Kent Swift and Elyse Toal; Kent has displayed outstanding play on the football field for the Barons combined with an exceptional work ethic and accountability on and off the field. He is one of the best leaders we have here at FV. Elyse leads the Barons in goals scored, is a Field Hockey team captain and last year was Sunset League 2nd team. Congrats Kent and Elyse !!

Congratulations to the girls JV golf team for their victory over Edison High School. Their victory was led by Vanessa Luong and Vivian  Huynh. Nice job girls, you are on PAR!

Great effort to Girls Varsity Tennis on giving #1 Newport Beach a tough match earlier this week.  The Barons lost to Newport 10 to 8.  No other team has come so close to knock off the Sailors.  Yesterday, Girls Tennis swept Los Al on all levels. Great job ladies!

Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball Frosh/Soph Red Team who beat Pacifica Christian!  Congratulations also to the JV Girls volleyball team who took first place in the Surf City Classic this past weekend!  Please come support your Barons as they take on the Oilers this afternoon at FV!

Congratulations to FVHS Model United Nations for another successful conference this past weekend.  Ian McKeever, Suzane Jlelati, and Shannon Lopez were all recognized for being outstanding delegates!  Way to go Barons!

FVHS Surf had a challenging contest vs Marina on Tuesday, October 13th.  Here are some noteworthy heat placements:  Giovanna Scandone took 2nd place in Women’s Longboard and 2nd place in Short Board. In Men’s shortboard,Riley Donohoo took 1st Place, Noah Hafen 3rd place and Drew Nordfelt finished in 3rd Place in Men’s Longboard.  In the Bodyboard heat, Ashton Mann took home 1st place and right behind him in 2nd place was Timmy Knowles.

Interested in swimming for the FVHS swim team?  Attend one of our three tryouts:  Saturday October 17th @ 1 pm, Monday November 2nd @ 7 am or Wednesday December 9th @ 5 pm.

Come out to CSF’s pumpkin carving fundraiser and social at Mile Square Park tomorrow Saturday from 4-7 PM.  Coming to the event is free, but to participate in the pumpkin carving contest will be $5 presale and $7 at the door per team member. Hey Barons – This Thursday night your mighty Barons take on Los Al, want a free ride to the football game?  We will be having a rooter bus for all students, the bus will be leaving at 5:30pm.  To hold your spot, get a permission slip from the financial office, bring a $5 deposit , and if you go to the game,  get your money back on Friday.   Make sure you have ID and money for the game!  ASB & Super Baron will be $3.00 and all other students will be $8.00.  Come cheer on your Barons!

Girls Soccer tryouts begin today at the Stadium Soccer Field right after 6th period.

READY…SET…GO!  This Wednesday, October 14th is our big College and Career Day.  All students, all grade levels will be testing or taking a career assessment and grades 9, 10 and 12 will be visiting the College/Career fair in the gym.  Our juniors will be taking the PSAT.  Be sure to check with your English teachers for your room assignments, and remember we are on a special bell schedule with dismissal at 1:02.

Come out to CSF’s pumpkin carving fundraiser and social at Mile Square Park this Saturday from 4-7 PM.  Coming to the event is free, but to participate in the pumpkin carving contest will be $5 presale and $7 at the door per team member. MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7th:

Congratulations to Jake Lee, who was selected as the Huntington Beach Union High School District Rookie Teacher of the Year!  He was selected for the work he has done to foster a positive classroom culture where students can grow and succeed.  Mr. Lee has a passion for his subject area and goes above and beyond in many areas. You’ll often see him at his student’s athletic competitions cheering them on. He is a model Baron and someone who makes coming to school each day a lot of fun!  Fountain Valley has the best teachers in the district and Mr. Lee helps prove each day why we are!

Congratulations to all three levels of Girls Tennis for their sweep of Edison.  Varsity won 16-2, JV won 11-7 and F/S won 18 – 0.  This was a Huge win!

Congratulations to the girls JV golf team for their victory over Los Al High School. Their victory was led by Maria Gomez and Mara James. Nice job girls, you are on PAR!

Great job, to the surf team against Huntington High School yesterday, Giovanna Scandone took 1st  and 3rd place in her heats.  In Men’s Short Board, Noah Hafen finished 2nd and Korbin Diep took 3rd Place, Drew Nordfelt was 3rd in Men’s Long Board; and in Bodyboard, Austin Mann and Timmy Knowles finished 1st and 2nd.

Come out and support Field Hockey tomorrow 10/8 @ 3:15pm as they play their Think Pink Game. The snack bar will be selling all pink items! FVHS Field Hockey also has it’s own donation page to benefit the National Foundation for Cancer Research.  Pick up a flyer at the game to find out how you  can donate.

Tomorrow night is Crush Cancer, as the Girls Volleyball team takes on Marina @ 5:30.  The Girls Volleyball Boosters are raising money for The McKenna Claire Foundation to fight pediatric brain cancer.  There will be a bake sale and donation drawing, hope to see you there!  Go Barons!

Seniors, juniors and sophomores; this week the Career Center is hosting many colleges, Mass College of Pharm & Health and University of San Diego to name a couple. Come to the Career Center and sign up for these presentations.

A really BIG event is happening next Wednesday, October 14th.  It’s College and Career Day! All grade levels will participate in school wide testing or career assessments.  Grades 9 and 10 will be taking the New SAT Challenge, grade 11 will be taking the official PSAT and our seniors will be taking the Complete Career Awareness Inventory.  The day also includes a visit to the College and Career fair.  As a reminder on this day there will be NO zero period class.

Don’t forget your Mighty Barons Football team begins League play tomorrow night at Newport Harbor, kick off is at 7:00pm!

Tryouts for 2015-16 FVHS GIRLS SOCCER will held next week on Monday – October 12th, Tuesday – October 13th & Wednesday – October 14th @ the Stadium Soccer Field beginning right after 6th period. Please bring cleats, running shoes, shin guards and water. Congratulations to our Mighty Baron Football team on their 38 to 18 victory over Mira Mesa last Friday Night.  This week the Barons travel to Newport Harbor on Thursday night, kick off is at 7:00pm  Remember Barons, if you have an ASB or Super Baron, show your ID at the ticket booth and pay only $3.00!

Fountain Valley’s very own former Baseball Coach Ron LaRuffa was selected as an Inductee to the CIF Southern Sections 32nd Hall of Fame.  Coach LaRuffa was head coach here @ FVHS for 16 years and won two CIF Championships.  In his Coaching Career he won 11 Sunset League Titles and had 546 wins.   Congratulations Coach LaRuffa, Baron for Life!

READY…SET…GO!  College and Career Day is coming next Wednesday, October 14th.  This will be your opportunity to prepare for the SAT’s, talk to college reps and visit over 80 vendors representing different career areas.
