Fountain Valley High School’s (FVHS) Dance Team put on their annual spring show in commemoration of the end of the 2015-2016 season. Competition pieces, student-choreographed dances, FVHS’s song team and fillers from outside dance studios all were included in the show.

“The spring show went really well. The fillers were loved, and our dance team did really well. There was a bunch of routines I hadn’t seen yet, and it turned out really nice,” said Dance Team Coach Tara Bearden.

The first half of the show started off with the Medium Hip Hop dance routine and ended with the Small Hip Hop dance routine. In between, there were other competition dances, solos and pieces from Beach Cities Dance Studio and Hudson Dance Academy.

There were not only traditional styles of dancing: Bryant Dang (’18) showed the audience his talent in hula hoop dancing. Along with dancing, Friday Night Live’s Talent Show Winner and FVHS’s The Voice Winner Tricia Tran (’18) sang to Stone Cold by Demi Lovato.

The last half of the show began with the Character competition piece where dancers acted as magicians. Dylan Nguyen (’17) also sang, and FVHS’s song team performed their competition routine. The finale had a jungle theme, so each grade level got to choreograph their own routine to what ever animal they wanted. Freshmen were birds, sophomores were snakes, juniors were monkeys and seniors were tigers. The show ended with a big group dance choreographed by Captains Anna Loeffelman (’16) and Nikki Kolb (’16).

The spring show was a way for the dance team to reflect on their past year.

“Dance team has improved over the year as a whole. Our technique, showmanship, and our dancing abilities started at a certain spot, and we’ve passed that,” said Bearden.

Although there were ups and downs, the dance team pulled through and reported a good season.

“They faced struggles of working together and injuries. Working as a team, as a unit, out on the floor was something they had to work on, and it got better towards the end. We had a great competition season and they did really well at Nationals,” said Bearden.
