Madison Grogan (‘20) has transitioned permanently over to varsity field hockey, which is quite astonishing, since she is just starting her four years here at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS).

Grogan has been playing soccer for ten years with the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). She started playing field hockey the summer before entering eighth grade at FVHS’s summer camp.

“I wanted to try a new sport and challenge myself to be the best that I could,” she said.

Grogan managed to lead junior varsity field hockey to a couple successful wins against Marina and Westminster, with help from fellow forwards Maya Bello and Keilani Velasco.

“I played forward only in the center on JV but now I’m learning to play left and right forward too [on varsity].”

Grogan seems to be fitting in just fine with her varsity team, ever since she played a hard game about Huntington Beach. She noted on how supportive her new varsity teammates were along with her coaches.

“They always supported me and encouraged me to do my best.”

Grogan said it is a “different experience” playing in varsity because “it’s a higher level of playing, but it’s also really fun.”
