Here are your morning announcements for Friday, October 28th:       

With the entire support of the student body, the Freshman football team beat the Edison Chargers 21-20.  For most of the first half, the game was a defensive stalemate, leaving the game tied at halftime.  Things opened up in the second half, but the game came down to a 3 yard defensive stand with 30 seconds left.  Great performances by Moses Atuatasi, Dillon Kerrigan, Jerry Ngo, Aaron Nguyen, James Martinez, Joey Tallabas, Fernando Silva, Carlos Salazar, and Brad Sweeney.  Thank you to the staff members, Pepsters, and athletics programs that made the boys last home game one they will always remember.  Go Barons!

Hey Barons, Bell Game tickets are still on sale, buy them at the Financial Office until 3:00 or buy at the game until sold out!  Come dressed out in Blue, join the FCA and ASB tailgate in the parking lot at 5:30 and cheer on your Mighty Baron Football team as they take on the Chargers.  Beat Edison, bring home that BELL!

Girls Volleyball would like to send A Huge “THANK YOU” to all Students and athletes that attended the Los Alamitos match last Monday.  Because of you Fountain Valley had more fans at Los Al than Los Al did on their own senior night!  Frosh/Soph started off by taking a set from this Division 1 program while producing very close scores, the rest of our teams played really well in our last league match.  Congratulations to Varsity for locking in 4th place in league this year by beating Newport Harbor High School for the first time in 10 years! Later in the week we’ll confirm if Varsity is going to CIF!  Come join the Volleyball Girls as they cheer on all our other Athletic Teams at their games this week!  Go Barons!

Hey Barons, after 6th period tomorrow come out thirty-seven hundred students strong and support the Freshman football team in their “mini bell” game at 3:15 on the main field. Then after the game head on over to the Glow Show at 5:30! It would be a great way to show our support to the pepsters, athletics, and the football program for all their hard work this fall.  Go Barons and lets bring that bell home!

The Glow Show is tomorrow night, October 27th.  We will have food trucks and face paint beginning at 5:30 PM and at 7:30 we will Light the Night!  Come out dressed in all white to show support for your mighty Baron football team in our most anticipated assembly of the year.

Do you like the idea of free candy, free face paint, free carnival games, and free music all in one place? Because FVHS PALS is hosting a pre glow-show trunk or treat with all of those things. Please come to the admin parking near the 100 halls Thursday from 5pm to 7pm before the glow-show for a new and fun Halloween experience – Trunk-or-Treat!! You can also enter our drawing to win the official FVHS Great Pumpkin displayed in the office! Hope to see you there!!

Congratulations to our October Seniors of the Month:  Austin Gergens and Caitlin Pham.

Girls Volleyball made a valiant effort last Thursday against Newport Harbor at all levels. Congrats to Varsity for winning in 3, making history yet again beating Newport Harbor twice this season, which hasn’t been done in the past 10 years!  We have a big game against Los Alamitos tonight at 6pm for an opportunity to place 3rd in League!  Please join us by wearing black for BLACK OUT night against the tough home crowd at Los Al.  If we win, we will  play again tomorrow night, Oct. 25th at Edison at 7:00pm.  Join our basketball, wrestling, Boys volleyball and Football team to support Girls Volleyball tonight at Los Al!  A rooter bus is leaving at 5:30 tonight.  Get your permission slip from Activities Office at lunch today, show up at 5:30pm and wear black!

With the amazing support of the JV Pepsters, the freshman football team battled in a 4 quarter slug fest last Thursday against the Griffins of Los Al.  The two 6-1 teams, took the game into the fourth quarter with the Barons leading 7-6.  The boys never gave up, but could not hold on losing  7-12.  The boys hope to use this loss to propel them against the Edison Chargers for the “Mini Bell” this Thursday at home.  We would love for the entire 3700 student body to come out and support the team next week.  Go Barons!!

Congratulations to the girls JV golf team for a dominating victory over Corona Del Mar. the Barons were led by Anh Nguyen and Melanie Namkung who each shot a personal best 38. Vivian Huynh and Heather Thinh also play well in the victory. Congratulations on a great season ladies!

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Golf Team for qualifying for the CIF playoffs for the first time in 4 years. The girls will be playing in Lakewood on October 31st. Good luck Barons!

Congratulations to Varsity field hockey for their 1-0 win over Westminster last week. The goal was scored by Sophia Rivera and shut out by Madison Jordan. Great job barons, we will miss you seniors!

Hey Barons, Edison Bell Game Tickets are on sale today for Staff and Students only.  You can get your ticket and purchase up to 4 additional tickets.  If you have a Super Baron or ASB card you must come to the Financial Office to pick up your free ticket, you will be required to show you ID along with this ticket at the gate.  Adult tickets and non Super Baron/ASB students are $8.00, Children under 12 are $3.00.  Tickets go on sale to the General Public on Monday, October 24th.

Tis the season to be spooky, and FVHS Theatre has you covered.  Tonight at 6:00pm, Fountain Valley Improv has a Murder Mystery to solve, followed by the theatre showcase at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $5 or $8 for both shows.

Congratulations to Michael Koger and Samantha Soriano for being selected September Seniors of the Month.

Yesterday the Freshman Football team came out victorious with another close one over the Sailors of Newport 10-7.  The defense held strong adjusting to multiple formations in the fourth to foil any hopes by the Sailors.  Standout performances by Sean “Nacho” Nguyen, Carlos Salazar, Dillon Kerrigan, Adam Ali, Brad Sweeney, Fernando Sliva, and Khalid Barhum.  Next week the young Barons take on Los Alamitos.  Go Barons!

Congratulations to our Girls Varsity Tennis for beating Marina 11 to 7, the girls are undefeated in league!  JV also won 16 – 2.  We are proud of you Girls Tennis!!

Attention Barons!  This Friday night your Mighty Barons take on the Sailors of Newport Beach in our homecoming football game, kickoff is at 7:00pm.  Our baseball team will be hosting a tailgate prior to the game at 5:15, in the Huntington Beach parking lot. All are welcome, so come out, have a good time and cheer your Barons on to victory!  Donations will be accepted!

Tomorrow is your Homecoming dance at the Dana Point Ocean Institute from 7-11 PM.  Remember to bring your ID to the door for entry, and don’t forget, doors close at 8:30 PM!  The theme is  “Paradise Awaits” hope to see you all there!

The deadline for the PTSA’s Reflections Art competition is today. Please submit your entries to the school office by 3:00pm.

On Wed, Oct 19th, you will be taking the PSAT.  The test will begin promptly at 8:00 am.  Please report to your assigned testing room.  Refer to the list posted in your English classrooms or Attendance windows if you need help locating your test room.  Bring #2 pencils, student ID, and approved calculator.  Good luck on your PSAT and thank you for your participation.

PICTURE MAKE UP DAY,  if you haven’t had your school yearbook photo taken yet, there will be a makeup day this Thursday, October 20th, from 7am – 3pm in the Media Center.  This is for Freshmen, Sophomores & Juniors.  Please make sure to drop by and have your picture taken.  This is your last chance for this year’s yearbook.

Attention Freshmen: there will be a Freshmen Commission meeting next Thursday, October 20th at lunch in room 401. We will determine our board members and begin planning activities.  See you there class of 2020!

Are you interested in art or journalism?  The Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County sponsors a competition through Mock Trial and FVHS has had winning students in the county who went on to compete at the state level championships multiple times now.  You do not need to be enrolled in art or journalism classes – just be interested. If you would like to participate in the Mock Trial Courtroom Artist or Courtroom Journalist competition, see Ms. LaFramboise in Room 131.  Applications are due Friday, October 21!

Congratulations to the following competitive surfers from our match against Huntington yesterday.

Sabrina Wells finished in 3rd place in the Women’s Longboard, Lance Smith took 3rd place in a Men’s Longboard heat, Luke Wells finished 2nd and 3rd in shortboard and Noah Hafen placed 1st and 3rd in his shortboard heats!

Girls Volleyball had a tough match against Edison last night, but managed to knock off 8 kills from Amy Hinnant, 5 team aces and 3 blocks each from Rilyn Todd and Kennedy Hood.  Tomorrow night is our next home match against Marina 4:30 and 5:30 start times and our first annual Youth Night.  Come support Youth Night by inviting younger siblings and their friends to attend a home volleyball match. First 15 kids get a free T shirt. All kids 12 and under get in for free and get to meet the players after the game. Lets get the community together to enjoy local high school sports at Fountain Valley.

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Golf team for a hard fought win over Marina. The girls were led by Misty Le, Breanna Bui and Melissa Kittredge. The girls are now tied for 3rd place in the Sunset League. Keep it up Barons!  The Girls JV golf team also beat Marina. The team was led by freshman Anh Nguyen and sophomore Vivian Huynh who made her first eagle. Way to go Barons!

Congratulations to Girls Tennis, both Varsity and JV beat Los Alamitos!  For the first time in 25 years we have started league 5 – 0!  F.V. is officially in first place!  Great job ladies!

Battling both the wind and the Oilers, the Freshman Football team came out on top, 20-14 yesterday. The Barons dominated the first half 20-6 with huge touchdown runs by Dillon Kerrigan and Carlos Salazar.  Aaron Nguyen had two inceptions in the defensive secondary taking one back for a touchdown.  Defense held strong in the fourth with hardnosed play by “No Hand” Jerry Ngo, Fernando Silva, Joey Tallabas, and Nate Scott.  Next week with Barons play Newport Harbor at home.

Girls Volleyball hosts Los Alamitos tonight and is giving away FANDANGO Movie tickets to the Best Dressed Baron.  Before the Football game tonight come support girls volleyball JV and FS game time is 4:30; Frosh Soph Gold and Varsity at 5:30. After the last set the Varsity girls will determine 2 Best Dressed Barons and will award the winners with FANDANGO Movie Tickets! Let’s show Los Al our Barons Blue and Gold Pride! 

Hey Barons! Our mighty Baron Football team takes on Huntington Beach High School tonight in their first league game at 7 o’clock. The theme is USA so come decked out in red, white, and blue!  Remember this is an away game, so if you have a Superbaron or ASB it will be $3.00 and without it will be $8.00. Hope to see you there!

FVHS Vocal Music presents their fall preview concert “Hope. Light. Love” on Wednesday October 12th at 6:45pm in the Robert B. Moore Theater on Orange Coast College Campus.  Join us for an evening of unique music that will leave you feeling happy and inspired.  Adult Premium tickets $12, Adult General Admission $8, and Students/Alumni $5.

Hey Barons! Homecoming week is next week barons!  Our first dress up day of the school year will be happening Monday. Show your school pride by wearing your class color.  Freshman are gold, Sophomores are red, Juniors are blue and Seniors are white!  Come to the bowl next week to participate in our daily Homecoming Week Lunch Time Activities! See you all there!

Girls Varsity Volleyball made history last night defeating Newport Harbor HS in only 4 sets! Serving them off the court was Britney Tran and Serena Hom with 3 aces and Kitty Nguyen with 4 back to back aces deep in the 4th set. Our defense held strong with 2 stuff blocks from Rilyn Todd that were clutch against the Sailor’s dominant hitter.  Offensively, we capitalized with 10 kills from Erin Finley on the outside, Kennedy Hood with 10 kills in the middle and our freshman stud Pheobe Minch with 15 kills to seal the win.  Thank you to all students, faculty and staff that supported Girls Volleyball on Crush Cancer night while we raised money for the Eastman family!  This Friday we take on Los Alamitos in a promisingly entertaining match, JV and Frosh Soph at 4:30; Varsity and Frosh Soph Gold play at 5:30.  Go Barons!

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Golf team for their victory over Edison last Thursday. The girls shot a 202 which is their best score in over 10 years. They were led by freshman Misty Le who shot an even par 36 and junior Breanna But who shot a 38. Well done ladies.

Congratulations to the JV Girls Golf team for their dominating victory over Los Alamitos. The Barons were led by sophomore standouts Vivian Huynh and Melanie Namkung. Way to go ladies!

Congratulations to JV field hockey for their 5-0 win over Westminster. Madison Grogan scored four goals and Keilani Velasco had one goal. Another shut out by Montana Franks. Great job barons! 

Way to go Girls Varsity Tennis on your 12-6 victory over Newport Harbor!! Amazing performance by Hanh Pham, Katie Ho and Sharon Chen.  Doubles teams of Clarissa & Vikki, Jane & Kayla, Aozora & Briana won their matches.  This is THE best performance by our Girls Tennis team against Newport, and we are 4-0 in league. Next up a tough match against Los Al at FVHS, please come out and support your team on Thursday, GO Barons!

Today is the day, the District College Fair is happening tonight!  FVHS will be hosting over 120 colleges tonight!  The fun starts at 6pm with the arrival of Food Trucks in our Bowl area.  Then at 7pm the Gym and Cafeteria doors will open with dozens of 4yr colleges, 2yr colleges and numerous career paths for you to explore. Can’t decide between taking the SAT or ACT?  We have a great breakout session for you to attend.  Are you a student athlete looking to be recruited? Attend the NCAA Eligibility session in Room 310.  Looking to transfer from a 2yr college to a 4yr college?  Join the Goldenwest Presentation in the Library or are you curious about Financial Aid? UC Irvine will breakdown the process for you in Room 307. The Army will be setting up their Asset Vehicle outside the Gym and you can visit our own Lifeguard Mr. Mike Eich in his Class A uniform as he presents the best of all of our Lifeguards.  If you or your parents want College Knowledge in Vietnamese or Spanish join those presentations in rooms 133 or 131.   Join us, visit and explore career paths and colleges. Categories include Dance/Choreography, Literature, Photography, Film Production, Music Composition and Visual Arts. State level winners receive a $100 savings bond and recognition at the California State PTA Convention in San Jose in April 2017.  Applications are available at the reception desk in the front office. Be sure to go to the PTSA page located on the FVHS.com website to download the specific rules for your category. This is very important to ensure your entry is accepted by the judges. Congratulations to the Royal Regiment, who took first place in their division this past weekend in their first competition of the season. Their show, titled, “In Pursuit,” wowed the judges and audiences alike! Highlights included an awesome baritone horn solo by Brian Suzuki, as well as some amazing solo dance work of Darcy Vo! The mighty F-V-R-R will be performing again this weekend at Valencia High School in Placentia. Go Barons!

Frosh Soph Girls Volleyball had a big tournament this weekend in Tustin. They finished 1st in their pool and made it to the good division, losing in quarter finals. Come check out a huge game tomorrow at 4:30 and 5:30 as we take on Newport Harbor in our Crush Cancer Game!! The Girls Volleyball team will be featuring a bake sale and raffle to raise money for Cancer Awareness.
