For the first time ever, the Peer Assistance and Leadership program (PALs) is hosting an event called Trunk or Treat, which will take place before the glow show today at 5 p.m. It will be located in the administration parking lot near the 100 hallways.

The event is intended to welcome freshmen to Fountain Valley High School’s (FVHS) long standing tradition of the glow show and bell game, but all are welcome to attend Trunk or Treat.

“With PALs and Link Crew, one of the big missions is to get freshmen more connected to our campus in a positive way, so we’re really targeting for freshmen, but anyone’s welcome,” said Assistant Principal Marc Trocchio.

PALs is a new peer assistance leadership program led by Trocchio that aids and fosters the freshman of FVHS. Their goal is to get the freshman more involved and integrated into the campus’s events, thereby making them more comfortable with high school life.

Trunk or Treat has been planned by PALs and is a joint collaboration with the Link Crew.

PALs envisions a festive, Halloween-themed atmosphere with about 100 cars, or “booths”, set up in the parking lot with music, free candy, games, face paint and more to attract students.

The PAL program hopes that this event will have a fun pre-party atmosphere that will generate excitement and hype for the freshmen and the glow show. PALs also hopes that this event will be a huge success and evolve into a yearly tradition to celebrate Halloween as well as encourage our school to bond as a community.

The event also seeks to provide a safe environment for students to trick or treat with the hope that staff, parents, and booster groups will contribute to the effort by decorating their cars and passing out sweets.

In addition, starting this year, Link Crew is to continue to connect with their freshmen by having bonding activities throughout the year.

Besides the Trunk or Treat event, the Link Crew, PAL program, and Associated Student Body (ASB) aim to celebrate the end of the freshmen’s first semester in January by inviting them to a breakfast in the bowl on a modified Monday. To commemorate the accomplishments of the first-years, there will be music and food prepared by PALs, Link Crew, and other upperclassmen for the freshmen to enjoy.

With many new events meant to enhance school spirit among the class of 2020, this year’s freshmen have many things to look forward to in the start of their successful high school careers.
