January 2017 Morning Announcements

Here are your morning announcements for Tuesday, January 31st:

Hey Seniors!  Senior of the Month applications are due on Friday, February 3rd. If you were not selected for January, your application will rollover. Good luck!

Come support Girls Basketball by wearing white, tonight at 7o’clock in the gym!   We will be honoring our Seniors before the game and at halftime we will be celebrating FV’s newest Hall of Fame Inductee Carol Strausburg, a former head coach at FV.

The National DV Hotline states that 1 in 4 women aged 18 and older in the US have been a victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.  February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month and our school is spreading awareness by wearing orange every Thursday in February, as well as Valentine’s day.  PALS are selling “Love Shouldn’t hurt” t-shirts this week at lunch by the cafeteria for only $10.  Come check them out and show your support against teen dating violence.

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Soccer team for capturing their 2nd Sunset league victory in a row by defeating, CIF #3 ranked rival, EDISON HS 2-1 last week.  FVHS fell behind in the first half 1-0 until Senior/captain, Karley Duda tied the score on a free kick from 20 yards out. In an exciting second half finish led by Senior goalkeeper, Aysia Buendia, the lady Barons defense shutout the Edison attack and with 15 minutes remaining, Junior/forward Kylie Wilson scored Fountain Valley’s game winning goal!  Today is SENIOR DAY, come on out and support our Seniors and the rest of the squad as they take on Marina!

Hey Barons! Get ready to PACK THE GYM this Friday, Feb. 3rd after Boys Basketball takes on Huntington Beach. To attend the dance, you MUST be in the gym by 7:15. The game is free with ASB/SB & $6 without. Buy your presale dance ticket for $5 starting Wednesday, Feb. 1st at the financial office or online at the student store.  OR you can get one at the door for $8. Tipoff is at 7 PM, come out in your USA colors. See you there Barons!!

The Spanish Club will be hosting a movie day in the cafeteria featuring the movie Mcfarland USA tomorrow, February 1st, at 3:30pm. Tickets are $3.00. See any Spanish teacher for tickets. This is a great opportunity to earn cultural points.

Here are your last announcements of the first semester:           

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month and our school is spreading awareness by wearing orange every Thursday in February, and on Valentine’s day.  Next week PALS will be selling “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” T-shirts during lunch, by the cafeteria for only $10.  Come check them out and show your support against teen dating violence.

The FV girls soccer team is celebrating senior day on Tuesday, January 31st at 2 o’clock at our home field. Please come out and show your support for our graduating seniors. Game time is 3 o’clock VS. Marina HS.

Students, if you need a schedule change, please see your Guidance Specialist by January 27. Requests will be reviewed and changed if possible.  Only teacher recommendations and administrative changes will be done after second semester starts.

Attentions Juniors, If you would like a copy of your PSAT score report please pick it up before school or during lunch in Mrs. Wong’s office.  Her office is located in the administration building.

Attention all students ​ and AAAP tutors​ – we will still have normal AAAP hours today from 3:30 to 5:00 and special extended tutoring hours tomorrow, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in the Media Center.

Huge Congrats to Fountain Valley’s Virtual Enterprise class who competed in the State Trade Show competition last week. They won 7th Place Catalog, 8th Place Website, 2nd Place HR Manual, 2nd Place HR Scenario, 10th Place Sales Scenario, 7th Professional Booth Design, and 5th Place Business Plan.  Their team of Katherine Chau, G.A. Arora, Justin Nguyen, Johnny Nguyen, and Thang Phan will now advance to nationals in New York for Business Plan.

Congratulations to our JV Cheer and Varsity Song squads on their amazing performances at their first competition on Saturday!!! JV Cheer came in 4th out of 9 teams securing their spot for Nationals, as well did our Varsity Song team who came in first place!!! What a way to start the season girls!

Here are your morning announcements for Friday, January 20th:

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Soccer team for defeating and shutting out the visiting #1 CIF ranked Los Alamitos Griffins 1-0! The Lady Barons, forward, Marissa Lynch scored the lone goal with 20 minutes left in the second half and the defense led by senior captain, Aysia Buendia, preserved the shutout win. Our next Sunset League match will be Monday, Jan 23rd as all levels travel to take on rival Edison High School. Go Barons!

Congrats to our December Athletes of the Month, Amy Hinnant, Volleyball, and Michael Lightbody, Basketball!

Here are your morning announcements for Tuesday, January 17th:         

Congratulations to the dance team for a great start at their first competition of the season this past Saturday!!  The Varsity and JV lyrical teams placed third, Large Jazz placed 2nd, Large Hip Hop placed 2nd and the Small Hip Hop team received 1st! Also, in the 12th grade solo division Lily Orlando placed 1st!! Great work dancers!!

The last Saturday School before finals is TODAY!  Saturday School is held in the cafeteria.  It starts promptly at 3:30pm and ends at 7:45pm.  Bring homework and a book to read.

Congratulations to Boys’ Basketball for getting the sunset league win over Marina without their MVP Mike Lightbody who is out injured.  Cody Newsome led the Barons with 21 points with Paul “Emra” Vu scoring 10 points, and Garrett “Milk Man” Young and Vinh “Alfredo” Ngo each scoring 9 points. The basketball team is now 9-8 overall and 1-1 in Sunset League Play.

Attention Link Crew Leaders- There is a mandatory meeting today at lunch in room 236. We will be discussing the upcoming 8th grade preview day.

Congratulations to Ryan Ash and Helen Dang Vu!  The Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County will present each of them with awards for their stellar performances in Mock Trial this season. Congratulations Ryan and Helen and, as always, Go Big Red!

Due to the 5 Counties Wrestling Tournament, the senior parking lot and church parking lot will be severely impacted this Friday.  Students with a senior parking permit may park in the church parking lot if space allows. Parking will not be available for all students with a parking permit.  Please consider making alternate arrangements to school this Friday, such as carpooling or being dropped off.

Congratulations to Melanie Chambraud and Tracy Nguyen for being selected as our January 2017 Seniors of the Month!

Congratulations to Boys’ Basketball who finished 5th in their last tournament. They won their first game by 40, lost to a tough Northwood team by 4 points, won their next game by 20, and in the final game beat a much better team by 6 points. Boys Basketball has an 8-7 overall winning record.

Attention Swimmers – The final tryouts for the 2017 season are this Saturday, January 7th at 1:00 PM on the pool deck. If you weren’t able to make the last tryout or would like to improve upon your times, please join us.  We ask that last year’s JV & Varsity swimmers come and assist with tryouts. Additionally, there is a Parent Meeting this Wednesday, January 4th in the Media Center at 7:00 PM.
