March 2017 Morning Announcements

Here are your morning announcements for Friday, March 31st:

Huge win for Boys Tennis yesterday as they beat Huntington Beach.  Varsity won 15-3 and JV won 13-5. Keep up the great work Tennis!

Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball team for their 10-9 victory over Newport Harbor. The Barons improved to 2-2 in Sunset League play and their next game will be at Edison on Wednesday at 315.

The Fountain Valley track teams competed against Los Al and Newport in a Sunset League Tri meet.  The Barons beat Newport, but lost to Los Al in a close contest.  Nathan Willoughby broke the school record in the 300 hurdles.

It’s time for Teacher of the Year election.  Students you will have a chance to vote for your favorite teacher during your 3rd period class.  Election will run from 4/4 – 4/7. Let your teacher know why they deserve to be Teacher of the Year.  (Parents, voting ballots are available in the Administration Office during said days).

Interested in planning dances and assemblies, or working with clubs?  Want to get involved in homecoming, loud crowd, making posters, or building school spirit?  ASB might be the place for you.  Apps are available at baron activities.com

Attention all Freshmen female athletes…Next week, Tuesday April 4th and Wednesday April 5th you will need to meet in the gym at 8am to complete the California Physical Fitness Test required by the State of California.  Please come in workout clothes and arrive on time.  Freshman Male Athletes will be tested at a later time.

Attention all students: if you are struggling in math, science, English, social studies​ or world languages, and are in need of tutoring help, stop by the new After-School Academic Assistance Program (formerly known as Homework Club) in the Media Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. ​Tutors ​are​ available each day- no sign-ups necessary.

​You can also ​clear up to 3 detentions each session you show up at, if you stay for the entire session and are studying or receiving tutoring !

Congratulations to Varsity and JV Boys Tennis on their victories over Marina!  Varsity won 15-3 and our JV’s won 16-2.  Go Barons!

Good luck to the dance team who will compete at USA Nationals this weekend.  Dancers will compete Friday and Saturday at the Long Beach Convention center.  Last weekend they competed at the CADTD State competition and all teams did very well.  The Large Jazz and Medium Hip Hop teams brought home 4th place trophies!!

Here are your morning announcements for Monday, March 27th:

Congratulations to the Track team for sweeping Edison last Thursday on all levels. Girls Varsity won 94 to 38, Girls JV won 82 to 43 and Girls Frosh/Soph won 94 to 42.  For the Boys, Varsity won 92 to 39, JV 112 to 23 and Frosh/Soph 95 to 41.  Top performances were put in by Courtnee Moreno, Nathan Willoughby, Jevon Hill  in the hurdles; Ally Bebout, Cora Davis and Jake Garrett sprints; Kristin Prado distance and Breanna Moreno in the  long jump.

Congratulations to the Baron Swim Teams on an exciting start to the season!  Last Tuesday your Baron’s went up against team rivals, the Edison Chargers. The Boys teams swam hard but couldn’t quite outdo the green. Varsity kept it to within 2 points the whole meet in what ended up to be an awesome nail biter!  The Girls Open and JV teams both swam away with a win.  The Varsity Girls crushed the reigning league champion Chargers with a 104-66 win!  Thanks so much to all that came out in the rain, our next meet is tomorrow @ Marina at 3:00 pm. Go Barons!

Baron Softball ended with a great week. Both Varsity and JV had 3 big wins.  Thursday they beat University and Saturday they had 2 wins each over Ocean View.  Varsity had a great day of pitching and defense,  but the offense was the difference, scoring 28 runs Saturday with home runs by Madeline Domingo and Zoey Berg.  Great job ladies!

Congratulations to Baron Banner for placing and bringing home 9 awards at the Southern California Journalism Education Association last Saturday.

Next Stop, River City, Iowa!  The Classic Musical, The Music Man opens this Wednesday in room 309.  Tickets are available on the fvhstheatre website or this week during lunch outside 309.  We hope to see you there.

America: Of Thee I Sing!   Join us Wednesday, March 29th at 7PM at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach as Fountain Valley High School Vocal Music presents the music of America….folk songs, spirituals, patriotic favorites and music that defines the heritage of our great country.  We will be honoring veterans, military service men and women, and recognizing our graduating seniors.  Premium tickets are $12, General Adult $8, Students/Alumni $5. We would like to give our active military and veterans a complimentary ticket to the performance as a small token of our appreciation for their service.

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Golf team for finishing in 2nd place at the Long Beach Milikan tournament. The team was led by Josh Vo who had the individual low score with a 71. Kevin Hinh shot a 78 and Vedant Baiswar and Chris Le also played well.

Here are your morning announcements for Monday, March 20th:

Congratulations to the Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra who were given “Excellent” ratings, and also to the Concert Band who received a “Unanimous Superior” this weekend at the Beckman Music Festival. Way to go FVRR!

Congratulations to the FVHS Theatre department for their great showing at the Fullerton College Theatre Festival over the weekend.  Cathy Bui won 1st place for her performance at the festival.  Congratulations Cathy!  Be sure to get your Music Man Tickets on sale now at fvhstheatre.com.

Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball team for their 3 – 2 win over rival Edison in the opening game of the Sunset League season. The Barons were led by strong pitching performances by Nate Wilson, Cedrick Perez and Justin Yang. Trevor Staffieri hit his first varsity homerun to tie the game at 2-2. Shea Adame doubled and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The Barons turned around and beat Long Beach Poly 3-2 in 10 innings on Saturday. Cedrick Perez hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 10th to give the Barons the win. Baseball plays Wednesday at Marina at 3:15. Thank you to EVERYONE who came out on Friday. We appreciate your support.

Pep Squad competed at Best of the West this past weekend and had another successful competition against some very tough teams. Song placed 6th and JV Cheer placed first again!! The girls will now prep for their Nationals Competition which is this weekend at the Anaheim Convention center. Wish them luck if you see them!

Our Baron Track team competed at the California Relays over the weekend, top performances were:

Cora Davis who ran 12.33 in the 100 meters; In the 3200 meters, Ashley Faller ran 11:35 and Bella Guerra ran 11:51. Breanna Moreno jumped 17 feet in the long jump, Courtnee Moreno jumped 35 feet, 4 inches in the triple jump and David Straw was 6 feet 4 inches in the high Jump.  Great Job Barons!

Hey Barons, tomorrow is our first spring season “Game of the Week”.  Our aqua-jocks take on Edison at home at 3pm!  It’s a blue out, so come out and show our swimmers some love.

Calling all captains and future captains we are having our next “Captains Huddle” this Wednesday, March 22nd in room 304A at lunch make sure to be there!

If you are attending any Community College and need more information regarding the application, online orientation or the Freshman Priority Registration process come to the Cafeteria today!  The GWC Outreach Counselor will be on hand to help and answer all of your questions.  Don’t forget periods 1 through 4 in the Cafeteria but you must have teacher permission in order to attend the presentation.

Seniors that were accepted to Cal State Long Beach and want to know “What are Your Next Steps”? Come to the Career Center on tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21 at 9am!

Here are your morning announcements for Friday, March 17th:

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Golf team for a hard fought victory over Esperanza. The Barons are led by Sophomores  Josh Vo, Nicholas Gomez, and Vedant Baiswar. The Barons are 5 and 2 heading into the tough Sunset League. Good luck Barons!

Congratulations to the JV Boys Golf team for their 2nd victory and season sweep over Estancia.  The team was led by solid play from Johnathan Nguyen, Tanner Sonoda, and Alex Osborne.  Keep up the great work boys.

Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Tennis team for beating Mater Dei 14 – 4! Justin Nguyen won all of his singles matches and Ryan Trinh won 2 of his singles matches. We swept all our doubles matches.  Captain Jonathan Dang is on fire he partnered up with Vivek Savsani.  Brandon Keller & Jason Tran, Tommy Trinh & Eric Tadros won all of their doubles matches!  JV also won 18-0! Massive win for out JV team!  Go Barons!

BARON ACADEMIC FOUNDATION is proud to announce the Opening of the 2017-2018 FVHS Student Planner Art Contest.  The planner cover contest is open to the entire student body. FVHS  students refer to the BAF website for more details.  The winner will receive a $100 gift card. Deadline for your submission is April 3rd.

Seniors! If you are attending any Community College and need more information regarding the application, online orientation or the Freshman Priority Registration process come to the Cafeteria on Monday, March 20th. The GWC Outreach Counselor will be on hand to help and answer all of your questions.  Don’t forget periods 1 through 4 in the Cafeteria but you must have teacher permission in order to attend the presentation.

Good luck to the Dance Team who will be performing at the OC Hilton this afternoon at the OC Department of Ed Arts convention. This is a huge honor as they were the only dance team selected to represent dance in all of Orange County. The track teams competed at the Redondo Nike Invitational over the weekend.  The girls were led by Ashley Faller, Bella Guera, and Sara Feits with great performances in the mile.  The girls 4×100 relay ran 49.40 and was composed of Ally Bebout, Courtnee Moreno, Camille Nguyen, Cora Davis.  Cora also ran 12.37 in the 100 meters. Breanna Moreno jumped 16 feet 9 inches in the long jump.  The boys were led by Nathan Willoughby in the hurdles, David Straw in the jumps, and Gavin Carter in the pole vault.

Theatre is putting on their Spring musical, The Music Man, starting next Wednesday to Saturday.

Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball team for their 12-4 win over Irvine High school. Trent Sievers and Conrad Villafuerte have led the Barons offense thus far.  They open up league play at home and against Edison next Friday at 3:15.  Please come out and watch some exciting Sunset League Baseball

The dance team was victorious at this past weekend’s competition at Woodbridge High School.

All teams placed in the top 3!! Small lyrical and Jazz placed 3rd, Large and small Hip Hop and

JV small lyrical placed 2nd and Medium Hip Hop and Large Jazz placed 1st!! In the solo category, Lily Orlando placed 2nd. Now the teams will prepare for their upcoming State and National Competitions. Great job to all dancers and keep up the hard work!!

A big congratulations to our competition Pep Squad teams!  They had a successful weekend full of competition at Woodbridge and Marina High School.  Song placed third on Saturdayand JV Cheer placed first yesterday!! Awesome job ladies!!

Softball finished their first tournament, Varsity went 3-1 with a big win over Marina 4-3 the bats were alive and defense was strong it was a complete group effort. JV ended 1-3 losing some tough games.  Great job ladies keep working and keep winning.  Go Barons!

Meet the Professionals, this week during lunch.  On Wednesday, Danielle Sorenson, a Nurse Practitioner will be here, and if you are interested in a career in firefighting, Cory Sorenson, a member of the Fountain Valley Fire Department will be here on Thursday. Hey barons! Sign ups for March Madness begin in front of activities this Wednesday!  So grab your teams of 7 at $5 per player!  The tournament is only 22 teams so first come first serve! Don’t miss out on the madness!

Barons – our Pack the Gym make-up dance will be held March 24th, from 8pm-11pm. No charge, and all current FVHS students are welcome to attend.

Barons, the annual Grad Night Art Contest has begun!  This year, we are including digital as well as hand-drawn submissions, depicting our theme, “Just One Last Knight!”   Save as a PDF or jpeg (high resolution) and send by email to FVHSGradNight@gmail.com. The top three submissions will be chosen and in two weeks the Senior class will vote on their favorite – the winner will receive a $50 Visa gift card!  Don’t forget to include your name, ID, and telephone number so we can contact you.  Submissions must be emailed by March 16th.  Fliers can be found in the Activities Office and online at FVHSGradNight.com.  Good luck, Senior artists!!

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Hey Barons. Got extra time on a modified day and want to grab breakfast at Glee’s? Or want to get some donuts after school?  Senior Commission is hosting a Glee’s March Madness fundraiser.  Stop by every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday throughout the month of March and say that you are for FVHS or show our digital flyer for proceeds to go back to our school.

Have questions about this year’s Grad Night Party?  We welcome all parents to attend this month’s Grad Night Meeting on Wednesday, March 8th, at 7 pm in the Faculty Dining Room.  We will give an in-depth presentation to answer all your questions about the night, as well as specific ways you can help.  It takes hundreds of volunteers to make this AMAZING party happen, and we need more than just Senior parents.  Please come and learn how you can make a contribution–We NEED YOU!!!

The Huntington Beach Adult School will be offering summer school for students who need to make up a class for graduation or for college eligibility.  Students may enroll up to 10 credits at no cost. Summer school will begin June 19 and will end July 27.  Registration starts today!  Please see Mrs. Wong during lunch for course list, class time, and locations.
