Gas prices on the rise

Currently in Fountain Valley, the gas prices are higher than the average of California. The California average for gas is currently 2.844 per gallon while in Fountain Valley, the prices rise above 2.900 for self serve regular gasoline.

This number may seem insignificant at a glance but it is close to 12 cents more than the Fountain Valley average for gas last year.

With Fountain Valley seniors and juniors being on a limited budget for gasoline as it is, the recent increases have made it even more difficult to manage refilling on gasoline.

“For my friends and I who don’t work, any increase (of gas prices) is hard to handle because we already have so little to spend on gas, so even though it’s a only couple cents it adds up with some of our older cars that burn gas more quickly,” said Brian Dang (’17).

Some students are already under pressure with having to save up for the various costs of senior year.

Some costs associated with senior year include having to pay for a parking pass, yearbook photos, yearbooks, homecoming, prom, graduation gowns, AP testing and college applications. This combined with the newly rising gas prices has proved to be difficult to handle for some seniors.

“Senior year is already pricey as is with having to pay for all the different graduation ceremonies and also this year we all have a little more freedom to go out and we want to enjoy that but it get’s kind of difficult when you get piled on with different things like this you have to spend money on,” said Taylor Golden (’17).
