The Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) track & field team had its first League meet against Edison last Thursday on March 23.

Although not a tough competition, the Barons performed extremely well, crushing the Chargers in an overwhelming victory in all six divisions.

“The team performed very well. We’ve been setting ourselves up since the beginning of the summer for this, so we were totally ready to compete; everyone just seemed excited to be back on the track,” said Amanda May, a senior shot put and discus thrower.

In the varsity girls 1600m run, boys 110m hurdles, boys 300m hurdles, girls 200m dash, boys long jump, girls triple jump and girls discus throw, the Barons performed amazingly, not letting the Chargers receive any points at all.

Some of the key players such as Ashley Faller (‘19) received second in the 800m run at 2:32.17 along with her top score in the 1600m run; Jacob Garrett (‘17) received first in both the 100m dash and 200m dash at 11.12 and 23.06; Cora Davis (‘17) scored first in the 100m dash with 12.14 and the 200m dash with 25.77; Ally Bebout (’18) got first in the 400m dash with 1:00.78; Kristen Prado got first in the 3200m run at 12:07.90.

In pole vault, Kayla Peterson (‘19) placed first at 8-06.00 with Auzeen Rahgoshay second at 8-00.00 and Gavin Carter second for boys.

Meanwhile in long jump, juniors Breanna Moreno, who also competed in triple jump, and Dorothy Ngo, scored first and third. Juniors Josh Tellez, Thomas Q Do and David Straw got first, second and third. Do also placed second in the 400m dash and the first in triple jump, and Straw scored the first in boys high jump with 6-02.00.

In shot put and discus throw, May broke her personal record (PR) in shot put with 32-09.00 and also got first in discus throw with Jane Liu getting second in both of these as well. For the boys, Anthony Meneses (‘17) got the first in both discus throw and shotput with 110-06 and 44-05.50.

“This season the Fountain Valley Track and Field team is striving to win League on all levels; last year we had it on every level except girls varsity and we really want to take the title back,” said May.

The Barons’ next dual meet will be against Los Alamitos this Wednesday, and the Barons are excited to win against their rival and take back the title this year.
