Despite a limited time frame and venue difficulties, Fountain Valley High School’s Theater classes were able to successfully put on their second production of the year: “The Music Man.”

With approximately 56 days to put on the musical, the theater group held auditions just before the first semester ended and began rehearsals on Feb. 1. Regardless of grade or experience level, everyone had the opportunity to audition and callbacks were held to find the perfect performer for each roll.

While both are established classics, unlike theater’s first production of “Hamlet”, the audience will be more amused during “The Music Man,” instead of continuously thinking while watching the play.

Along with Theater Director Robert Zick’s connection to the musical as a child,  “The Music Man” was chosen to accommodate to the skills of the performers.

“Having the opportunity to put it on here at Fountain Valley is pretty awesome because it is a play that touches people for much of their lives” said Zick.

However, the time frame theater was given to produce the comedy not only affected their rehearsal time, but the placement of the venue. In addition, the unpredictable weather did not allow the production to be held the bowl in fear of rain. As a result, theater will be performing their production in room 309. Theater room shares this room with the dance team and other classes which affected the efficiency of making the sets. Many of them had to be put up days before the first showing and continued to be stretched for time.

“Our goal was to perform this in a performing arts space or something along the lines of the Huntington Beach auditorium,” said Zick.

“The Music Man” will be showing in Theater Room 309 beginning March 29-31 and April 1.
