May 2017 Morning Announcement

Here are your morning announcements for Wednesday, May 31st:

There are TWO Saturday Schools left this school year on May 31st and June 7th.  Tomorrow’s Saturday School is in the cafeteria after school.  It starts at 3:30 and ends at 7:45 pm.  Seniors, you must be clear of all detentions and Saturday Schools to participate in graduation activities.  If you are interested in a parking permit or lunch pass next year, you must be clear by the last day of school this year.  Please come to the Supervision window if you have questions.

Attention current biology students. Mr. Lee will host summer academic prep class for chemistry during this summer. If you are not sure about which chemistry class to take for next year or you are not prepared for chemistry class in general, don’t miss this opportunity. The course is two weeks long and it starts on June 19th. There are morning and afternoon classes. Please see Mr. Lee in room 213 for more information.Attention 2017 / 2018 AP Bio Students, there will be a mandatory information meeting Tuesday, June 6th in the library after school from 3 to 3:30. Color Guard auditions begin tomorrow after school.  Meet at the Band Room.

FVHS Vocal Music will be presenting their musical theater finale- The Golden Age of Broadway – Friday June 2nd and Saturday June 3rd at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster.  Tickets are on sale today from 12 – 1 outside the front office.

The Annual Dancing with the Stars event is this weekend!!!  The dance team and football team have come together with your teachers to create an amazing show filled with talent and entertainment.  Each football player and dance team member picked a teacher and was assigned a style of dance to perform. They will be competing for high scores by judges and crowd favorite that is decided by your votes!  Also there will be a group dance at the end with all other players and dancers!!  Show up to support these teams and your teachers!  The event is this Sunday June 4th at 6pm in the gym. Tickets are $5 presale from any football player, dancer or Mrs. Allen. Tickets at the door are $7. Hope to see you all there!!

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

PAL’s is hosting the last food drive for the school year. This food drive is for students who cannot provide for themselves during the summer. The food items that are needed are RITZ crackers, Mac-n-cheese, and granola bars. Any item, is appreciated, please leave any donations in room #128.

Today is the last day to buy a Senior Gram for $2.00.  Grams include a limited edition Baron bracelet and a personalized note.

Please donate if you can as it takes a lot of these items to keep 500+ teenagers hydrated and going until 5 am!  We completely depend on donations from parents and community friends for these items and we’re far from what we need. You can bring donated items to the fire station directly across the street from FVHS at any time. Please place them in the covered areas right at the front of the station. Bottled water, sports drinks, any type of soda, Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, Sunkist, Sprite, 7-up, cans are needed. NO BOTTLES of soda please. Wrapped candy in bite sized packages are perfect.  Please just drop off at your convenience. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness.

Here are your morning announcements for Wednesday, May 24th: 

Congratulations to both track teams for excellent performances in CIF Division 1.  The girl’s team broke the school record in the 4 by 100 relay.  Member of the team were Cora Davis, Courtnee Moreno, Breanna Moreno, and Ally Bebout.  Ashley Faller continued her strong sophomore season running 5:07 in the mile.  Courtnee Moreno qualified for the CIF Championships in the triple jump next week.  David Straw led the boy’s team advancing to the CIF Championships in the high jump.  Jake Garrett and Nathan Willoughby capped off excellent senior seasons in the sprints and hurdles.

Attention all Freshmen male athletes… tomorrow, Tuesday May 23rd you will need to meet in the gym at 8am to complete the California Physical Fitness Test required by the State of California.  Please come in workout clothes and arrive on time.  Again, all Freshmen male athletes will test next Tuesday at 8 am in the gym.

The Fountain Valley High School Theatre Department is looking for new critics for its 2017-2018 Cappies Critics Team! Cappies is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend theatrical shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers. Applications can be found at bit.ly/fvcappies or on the FVHS Theatre website. They are due Monday, May 22nd by 11:59 p.m.

2017 PTSA Scholarship Applications Now Available.  PTSA offers senior scholarships.  To qualify, you must be a current member of the FVHS PTSA for this academic school year, by today, May 12.

PTSA membership forms can be found online on the PTSA website, under the section About Membership fees are $12, due with the completed membership form.  Scholarship applications will be available beginning Monday, May 8 at the College and Career Center, the front office and on our website.  They are due by 3:00pm on Friday, May 19.  Questions?  Email  juliecarrfv@aol.com.

Meg Kelly Scholarship Applications, sponsored by the Baron Academic Foundation, are available beginning today at the College & Career Center, the front office and online.  You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and you, or a parent, must be a member of the Baron Academic Foundation for this school year, 2016-2017.  Make sure to complete all sections of the application and have a teacher/sponsor sign it as indicated.  The applications can be turned in to the front office or at the College & Career Center.   Remember, the deadline for turning in the scholarship application is May 19th!  (To find it on the website, start from the FVHS site, choose the “Parents” dropdown and then click on “Foundation.”)

On Friday March 24th the Math Olympiad club entered the Orange Coast College Math Meet, answering 100 questions in 60 minutes. Our Baron team took 2nd place defeating many schools, a few of which were Woodbridge, Troy and Edison. So, if you see the following students, please be sure to congratulate them; Anton Thanh, Andrew Bui, Thang Phan, Johnson Huynh and Steve Phan. A huge congratulations goes to sophomore student Anton Thanh for getting the highest score of ALL students in the competition and taking 1st place. Way to go Anton!!!

Attention all students signed up for or interested in AP Art History. There will be an important meeting this Friday, May 19th at lunch in room 301. The summer extra credit assignment will be discussed so don’t miss it! If you have any questions please see Mrs. Silvertooth.

The Chick-fil-A Leader Academy would like to thank to all those who attended last night’s Staff vs. Student Basketball game in the gym AND the staff and student players, coaches, and all those who volunteered their time to make the night a success. Attention all students: if you are struggling in math, science, English, social studies​ or world languages, and are in need of tutoring help, stop by the new After-School Academic Assistance Program (formerly known as Homework Club) in the Media Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. ​Tutors ​are​ available each day- no sign-ups necessary.

​You can also ​clear up to 3 detentions each session you show up at, if you stay for the entire session and are studying or receiving tutoring !

Meg Kelly Scholarship Applications, sponsored by the Baron Academic Foundation, are available beginning today at the College & Career Center, the front office and online.  You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and you, or a parent, must be a member of the Baron Academic Foundation for this school year, 2016-2017.  Make sure to complete all sections of the application and have a teacher/sponsor sign it as indicated.  The applications can be turned in to the front office or at the College & Career Center.   Remember, the deadline for turning in the scholarship application is May 19th!  (To find it on the website, start from the FVHS site, choose the “Parents” dropdown and then click on “Foundation.”)

Please come support Boys Volleyball at Los Al on 5/2 at 5:45. Prizes and gift cards will be given to the FVHS fans as they cheer in the stands. Varsity needs this win to help them get to CIF.

The dance team spring show is next weekend! On Sunday, may 7th at 6 pm in the gym, the dance team will perform all out their competition pieces from this season. There will also be guest performers from studios here in FV. Please join us in support of the dance team and enjoy the performances of our award winning teams!!

Disneyland Grad Nite tickets will be sold again the next two Thursdays May 4 and May 11th  at lunch in front of the Activities office.  $100.00 cash.  You must have a signed permission slip to buy a ticket.  Permission slips are on our fvhs. com website, or you can pick one up in Mrs. McCall’s office, the front office or Activities.

Today is the last day to purchase a yearbook!  Val in the financial office to order one, cost is $100.00.

Robyne’s Nest Scholarship forms are due today, May 1st.

The Grad Night Committee will be having a special presentation for Senior parents to learn how they can be a part of this very important event, ​Just One More Knight!  The Senior Parent Meeting will take place Wednesday, May 10th at 7 pm in the student cafeteria.  It will be a great night to have all your questions answered, and to have first opportunity to sign up for shifts at the Grad Night party!  Bring a donation of bite-sized candy or soda cans and earn an extra raffle ticket, giving your child an even better chance of winning a cash prize that night!  We have been working all year to make this night possible for our kids, and your attendance, help, and donations are key in making this the best  “​Knight” ever!

Attention current biology students. Mr. Lee will host summer academic prep class for chemistry during this summer. If you are not sure about which chemistry class to take for next year or you are not prepared for chemistry class in general, don’t miss this opportunity.
