On Saturday afternoon, Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) senior students were informed that they were required to exchange their graduation tickets due to the discovery of counterfeit tickets.

Administration was notified of the faulty tickets when the company realized an individual placed a ticket order that was identical to the school’s. As of press time, administration is not aware of who is at fault.

Every year, seniors are offered seven graduation tickets with an opportunity to request for more. This is because of the limited capacity that the Orange County College [OCC] stadium can accommodate: around 6,850 people. Any chance of the school exceeding this limit is a fire hazard and can result in a shut down of the entire graduation.

“We would love to offer unlimited tickets, but unfortunately, we are limited by the space available. We have considered other venues that have a higher capacity, but the cost to rent other stadiums and the convenience to families makes OCC the best choice for us,” said Assistant Principal of Activities Josh Lamar.

On Monday, June 12 and Tuesday, June 13 from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and Wednesday, June 14 from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m., seniors will have the opportunity to receive new tickets.

“If a senior conducted a transaction with another senior to get additional tickets, that transaction remains the responsibility of the seniors to work out,” said Lamar.

In the future, there will be more systems placed to try and prevent a similar occurrence from happening again, but for now, the exchange of tickets ensure the school will not surpass the limited capacity.

“Our sincere apologies to all the seniors and families who are inconvenienced by this.  We are deeply disappointed that individuals would conduct themselves in this manner, and ultimately, put the whole graduation ceremony at risk,” said Lamar.
