Students express their opinions on moving the school year forward

A movement to propel the school year forward is currently spreading across the nation. The proposal would begin and end the school year earlier so that it comes to a close at the end of May and AP testing. Students shared their thoughts on the proposal.

“I think it would be beneficial because you don’t have like a final exam and after you take your AP tests you’ll feel super stress free because basically after that, school’s over, so you don’t have to worry about anything. Because I feel like after AP testing, the month after that is kind of useless because we just like, hang out when that could be used for summer,” says Katie Nguyen (’18). Photo by Ivy Duong.
“Maybe in future years, but right now, it doesn’t really concern me at the moment. It would start early, so it could help. I’m not sure if it could help their studying or anything. It starts early so they’d have more time to study and do other homework and stuff,” says Braydon Phan (’21). Photo by Ivy Duong.
“I don’t have any AP classes, but it probably would be beneficial because future grades will have AP classes so it would probably help them and give them more time to study,” says Jackie Lai (’21). Photo by Ivy Duong.
“I mean, the AP test, or just the AP classes, are just something that a lot of people take, not to guide you to learn, but more to boost up their GPA to look good for college apps. I don’t think that would really be necessary, but people who actually choose to learn a lot in those classes, I guess it would be helpful for them,” says Richie Nguyen (’19). Photo by Ivy Duong.
“No [it would not be beneficial], because I’m not taking any AP classes,” says Spencer Booth (’19). Photo by Ivy Duong.
