On the girls’ varsity soccer team’s senior night, the Barons crushed the Marina Vikings with a score of 1-0. A combination of clever defense, stellar saves and evasive shots won the game for the Barons.

All eight seniors, Samantha Andrade, Ally Bebout, Kiana Flores, Brianna Giuntoli, Eden La Clair, Marissa Lynch, Rachel Roberts, and Kylie Wilson, took the field against the Vikings on Thursday, January 18 in an epic stalemate. Neither team could do much of anything in the first half and the ball flew in every relevant direction possible.

Wilson however, attempted to end this stalemate by nearly scoring a goal, but it ended with just a near miss. The first half ended with a whistle and many fans hoping that the second half would be more interesting.

Luckily, it was.

Right near the start of the second half, two fantastic corner kicks by sophomore Alysia Rubio nearly went in the goal, but took a ricochet off of the head of Lynch, flying straight up in the air.

A goal was finally scored by Lynch after succeeding in stealing the ball from a Marina defender right next to the goal. Marina had possibly mistaken Lynch for a teammate and gave the ball to her to sink into the corner of the goal.

This goal must have angered Marina as they came back firing with three excellent shots on goal, one was even in the very top corner of the net. These shots however, were all met by the amazing saves of goalie Flores. Leaping to save shots that were headed for the goal, she stopped every single one.

This, combined with stellar defense by Bebout and Sophomore Aliyah Lorsung-Gordon, was enough to hold the Marina Vikings at bay and kept them from pillaging the Barons into overtime.

After previously losing to Marina with a score of 0-2, the Barons definitely fought back on the home field with a much needed win, placing them at 2-2-1 in league. The team has won all of their league home games so far and are 12-4 in total.
