Girls water polo face harsh waters against Newport Vikings

In a tough match against Newport Harbor High School, the Barons’ girls’ varsity water polo team fell to the Sailors 2-22.

The first two quarters went all to Newport, who scored points continuously back to back. However goalie, junior Taylor Waldschmidt, managed to make a few successful blocks. The girls attempted to score twice but were unable to make it past Newport’s goalie and a steal made by senior Alexis Perez put the ball back on Fountain Valley’s side, to give them an extra chance. The Lady Barons had good defense and multiple successful passes but the second quarter ended 0-11.

In the third quarter, Waldschmidt made another successful block from Newport. Throughout the quarter, Newport made aggressive plays and kept hard defense against the Barons. But the Sailor goalie continued to keep strong defense to end all attempts made possible at the start of the quarter. The third quarter ended 0-16, the Barons still pushing hard for their first point

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Barons made their first point to get them on the board, the score 1-20. The crowd gave out loud cheers and the girls were sure to keep putting in all their strength to attempt to close the score gap. With many more attempted shots, the Barons gained another point after successful a successful shot to put the score at 2-21. As the final seconds counted down, Newport made fast plays and put in their final point, ending the game 2-22.
