Her favorite movies are Forrest Gump, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strike Back, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Her favorite book is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Her favorite band is Linkin Park. And her favorite class by far has to be Baron Banner.
With an affinity for writing, Olivia Krueger joined Baron Banner her sophomore year with the prospects of kickstarting her future in journalism. Now as a junior, Krueger takes on the role of sports editor and has made plenty of lasting memories in her journey in the past year.
“I really love the experiences we had at OCJEA and SCJEA. We bonded really well and since we all placed fairly high [in these competitions], we just had a good time overall and it was really fun,” said Krueger.
With her admiration for professional sports and its athletes, especially baseball, it’s a no-brainer that Krueger decided to assume a larger role in the sports department of Baron Banner. Aside from journalism, Krueger also has athletic experience under her belt, specifically track and field hockey, which only help to contribute to her passion in sports.
“Some people don’t like sports because they might think it’s boring, but once they understand the sport, they realize how much hard work goes into it, and I love sports writing for that reason because I get to highlight everything the athletes do,” said Krueger.
In the future, Krueger hopes to become a reporter/journalist for a professional sports team and attend Mizzou, regarded as the No.1 journalism school in the nation. She also leaves aspiring sports writers and journalists with a few words of wisdom.
“Your writing isn’t always going to be good, especially when you’re just starting off. But there’s no right or wrong way to write – what’s important is that you just keep writing and practicing,” said Krueger.
