Attending his last year at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), Yasir Khaleq (‘18) is a ball of energy drawing people into his happiness. As Key Club’s historian, Baron Broadcast News (BBN)’s producer and Baron Banner’s photo manager, Khaleq is the guy to go to for media help.
Khaleq first joined Baron Banner primarily as a writer in his sophomore year, specifically as a sports writer for soccer. He saw nobody signing to take photos for the articles. Frustrated from the lack of photographers, Khaleq decided to take matters in his own hands.
“You can’t write articles if there’s no photos, so I put matters into my own hands. I ordered my own camera and used the last bits of my savings that I saved up my entire life and bought a camera and a lens and I started taking photos,” said Khaleq.
At first, Khaleq struggled with photography. His photos were terrible quality, but that didn’t stop him. Being bad at photography made him ecstatic.
“You have to be bad at something first to get better at it. I was a terrible photographer, and now I think I’m pretty good. Photography is agrumentably, the greatest thing that has ever happened to me,” said Khalq.
In the future, Khaleq hopes to attend University of Southern California (USC). As soon as he stepped onto the campus, Khaleq could immediately visualize his future there.
“When I tour USC, I looked in the window and saw a lonely soul staring out of the residential halls. I knew, and I know that in one year time that will be me. I’ll be that lonely soul and every time my roommate comes by, I’ll say ‘Hey man, what’s up’. They’ll say ‘Hey dog, how you doing’ and they’ll be talking to someone but it won’t be me,” said Khaleq.
Khaleq is soon approaching the D-day of graduation and like his fellow classmates, he wishes for it to slow down.
“I’m going to miss Fountain Valley. There’s no place in the world where you can walk around be an idiot and obnoxious like I am. Say hi and everybody still likes you,” said Khaleq.
