Though the Baron’s Garden Club was only established two years ago, the devoted members involved have been dedicated to maintaining the school garden located behind the 200s building. With each passing year, the club is further established into the school community, helping the garden flourish to what it is now and developing a friendly community within the club.

“Caring for the plants and flowers in our garden is a manifestation of the results of our hard work and dedication,” said junior Lilian Vo, Vice President of Baron’s Garden. “I’ve been able to physically see our persistence and perseverance nurture a seedling into a flourishing plant.”

As well as tending to the garden on campus, the club also extends their work to volunteering with the Bolsa Chica Stewards group where they help restore the native habitat at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.

Continuing to maintain the health of the plants both on and off campus is only one of the main goals of the club. Still new to Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), the future of the club is something the board members put much thought into. To ensure the club continues strong, new members are prepared to serve as the next leaders who help create and fundraise more projects to further improve their garden.

“I see the potential of the club to expand our influence at FVHS and being able to educate the student population about nature and environmental issues,” said Vo. “The club also has the potential to improve access to healthy and fresh produce to the students and local community, as a long-term goal.”

Though not everyone has a skill for gardening, the club is a great way for students to find a new interest and work hard towards a common goal with other students. Tending a garden is also an efficient way to relieve stress by channeling it into something they’re dedicated to.

“There is great value in trying something new that interests you. I was never involved with gardening before I joined this club, but Baron’s Garden has given me so much opportunity to learn and grow,” said Vo. “Even if gardening seems like an unusual hobby for a teenager, we all have experience in hard-work and dedication, which is what Baron’s Garden offers. I would always encourage someone to try something new and that can start with joining this club.”
