This afternoon, the boys’ varsity soccer team played an intense game against the Huntington Beach Oilers, ultimately suffering a 0-3 defeat.

The game began fiercely, with a great deal of movement up and down the field and multiple goal attempts by the Barons. The ball continued to change hands until Huntington Beach scored a goal in the 21st minute of the half.

Despite multiple close goal attempts by sophomore Sebastian Rus, junior Connor Wright, sophomore Malachi Wright and junior Omar Shukairy, the Barons were unable to close the gap in the first half, ending with a halftime score of 0-1.

The second half proceeded in the same manner as the first, with vigorous movement across the field. However, the Baron defense was unable to counter the persistent Oiler offense, which scored two further goals in the ninth and 24th minutes of the half. The game ended with a final score of 0-3.

“We weren’t ready,” said Head Coach Jason Smith. “We didn’t show up today. It’s all in our heads.”

This is the Barons’ third Sunset Wave League game, following victories over Laguna Beach High School and Marina High School for a 2-1 league record. They will play Laguna again at home on Wednesday.
