Whatever, Everbowl

Searching for a new place to try açai bowls? Offering a food perfectly timed with modern society’s obsession with açai, Everbowl offers a wide variety of customizable açai bowls that could please your palate.

Walking into Everbowl, the bright interior grabs your attention with its modern and sleek look. The shop is a bit small but is overall aesthetically pleasing. Multi-colored wooden planks decorate the walls, putting a twist on a classic log cabin feel. A few other walls are white with muted messages promoting healthy diets. As soon as you walk in, the employees are eager to help.

Seating and parking isn’t a problem here, unlike other açai shops. Everbowl has tables and chairs inside and outside their shop, maximizing the amount of eat-in customers that they can accommodate. Sharing a plaza with the supermarket Ralph’s, Everbowl enjoys a large parking lot.

The menu is well-organized, acquainting newcomers with the process to building their own “Whatever Bowl,” which is a custom smoothie bowl that customers create with different base ingredients, base liquids that are unique to Everbowl, toppings and superfoods. The “Local Favorites” menu offers pre-selected bowl combos, color-coded by their main base ingredient.

Everbowl also has all-fruit smoothies, K2O brand kefir water, salads and their signature Overnight Oats. At the bottom of their menu, Everbowl delightfully informs customers that no sugar is ever added to their foods, followed with a literal smiley face.

The 24-ounce bowl comes with unlimited toppings and add-ons at a cost of $9. Unlike other popular açai shops like Blue Bowl, Everbowl doesn’t give base samples to asking customers because the bases are made-to-order because of Everbowl’s unique base creation method, consisting of base ingredient and base liquid.

I ordered one of the Local Favorites called Berry2 (pronounced “Berry Squared”) which consisted of an açai base and granola, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and goji berry toppings. The bowl itself was very refreshing and filling; it was more than enough to satisfy me. The fruits were fresh, and the granola added a nice crunch to the bowl.

However, towards the bottom of the bowl, the açai was icy. It was like scraping frozen fruit and killed my initial belief that the fruit was fresh.

All in all, Berry2 was very filling for its price, but it was terribly sweet, which made me question if Everbowl made good on their promise that no sugar was added. The açai bowl’s presentation overall was unsatisfying. In an attempt to evenly distribute toppings, Everbowl will not perfectly layer said toppings in an Instagram-friendly fashion but in a way that is meant to indulge tastes and textures rather than sight. Living up to its “Berry” name, Everbowl created an overwhelmingly red top, full of raspberries and goji berries with the occasional blueberry. If Berry2 really lived up to its name, Everbowl would use more blueberries and even add in other berries like blackberries.

Overall, Everbowl is a nice shop for when you’re craving an açai bowl. For the açai amateur, it’s a great introduction to the açai world. But for the açai connoisseur, it might be best to stick to your favorite shop.
