Sports Report 2019 -2020

All hip hop teams; small, medium, and large received 1st place with some heavy competition and the contemporary team received 4th place. Also one of our soloists Cat Tyler brought home a 3rd place in her solo, Elizabeth Uong won 1st place in drill downs and Amour Sumagaysay made it to the final round of the leap off.

The track teams competed at the Mustang Invitational over the weekend. Top performances were had by Maddie Jahshan and Kaho Cichon in the distances, Laney Wang and Maddie Haugh in the hurdles, Joi Hatcher in the throws, and Katelyn Truong in the jumps. On the boys side Patrick Dunn ran a season’s best time in the 100 meters. Abrahim Elrachid won his heat in the sprints. Shane Hill showed great improvement in the distances, and Adam Garrison set the Fountain Valley 10th grade record in the pole vault jumping 13 feet 7 inches. Last but not least Jonathan Yu won the triple jump posting a 39 feet 10 inch jump.

The Boys baseball team took on Sevite, winning 3-1. Jake Brooks turned in another great outing throwing a complete game 5 hit shutout. Jake had 4 strikeouts and no walks. Sebastian Murillo drove in 2 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th to put the Barons up 3-0. The Barons are off to a 5-1 record to begin the season. The Barons finish up Loara Tournament play this Saturday at San Clemente HS at 11:00 am. Thank you to all the staff and students who came out to show support.

Last weekend they competed over three days in Vegas at Nationals where cheer ended up coming in 2nd and Pom in 5th! Both divisions were filled with highly skilled athletes and we could not be more proud of these girls!! Make sure to check them out at our annual showcase on April 4th, held here in the gym.

The varsity baseball team won 4-3 over Santa Margarita on Tuesday. Noah Karliner earned the victory in relief to earn his first varsity win on the mound. He also drove in a run. Blake Wentz drove in the winning run in the top of the 8th inning. The Barons play Servite at home on Thursday at 2:30. This will be the 3rd top 25 team in the county in the past week. The Barons have a record of 4-1

The varsity boys golf team started out their season with a victory over Esperanza. The team was led by junior captain Brian Foster who shot a 40 and junior captain Brayden Grant who shot a 41. Good luck against Esperanza again today.

The boys basketball team advanced to the CIF semi finals after a great road game against Yorba Linda High School. The team would like to send a  special shoutout to all their fans and the baron nation for the road crowd. Your energy is amazing and is much appreciated.

The wrestling team made history in the wrestling program by winning Back 2 Back, 2019 & 2020, CIF Championships! Chasing 23 points going into the semi finals, Fountain Valley went 6 for 6 in the semis and came away with 5 CIF Individual Champions to seal the Title. Congratulations to Sean Solis for winning his 2nd CIF Title, Max Wilner for winning his 3rd consecutive Title, TJ McDonnell, Mikey Folch, and Luis Ramirez won their 1st CIF Title; Big Congrats as well to Zach Parker for placing 2nd to #4 kid in the state, and to Matthew Fee for placing 4th. All 7 move onto Masters next weekend. The top 9 from there move on to State

Last night girls basketball came up short in the CIF playoffs but battled throughout the game.  Leading our lady barons was senior, Kat Luu with 10 points and 3 blocked shots and Zoe Ziegler with 7 rebound

Lady Barons are Wave League CHAMPIONS!!!!

These young ladies beat Marina HS last night 60-48 to secure 1st place. Audrey Tengan (sophomore) had a career high 25 points, Margaret Tengan had 16 points. 

The wrestling team won their 9th straight league title! They were both dual meet champs and individual league champs. The individual league champions include: Mike Folch, Zach Parker, TJ McDonnell, Luis Ramirez, and Max Wilner. The team qualified 12 wrestlers to move onto CIF individuals. Come out tomorrow as they host CIF duals where they hope to capture their first CIF dual meet title. Fountain Valley is seeded 1st and have a good chance.

Last night your lady barons beat Laguna Beach 67-27 with senior Tiffany Shimizu tossing in 9 points and playing some tenacious defense.  Zoe Ziegler had 11 points, while junior Caitlin Okawa had 9 points. Other outstanding performances were had by Audrey Tengan, Tatiana Sago and Emmy King.

Over the past week your boys basketball team defeated the Huntington Beach Oilers in a tightly contested game! Jeremiah Davis scored 33 points, he has been selected as the Daily Pilot Sports player of the week. Please come out and support the Barons at home this Wednesday at 7pm against Laguna Beach.

Boys basketball beat Corona Del Mar Last night 63-57. Jerimiah Davis led the charge with 24 pts, Roddie Anderson had 18 pts and 10 rebounds. Thank you to all the supporting fans and the student section last night. Please come out and support us next Wednesday at home against Laguna Beach at 7pm.

FVHS Girls Soccer had a great match against Corona Del Mar. Frosh tied 2-2 with an exciting two goal comeback! Junior Varsity sealed a 1-0 victory in the second half with a late goal by Freshmen, Sarah Gomez. Varsity shocked the #3 ranked CIF D1 Sea KIngs 3-1.Senior-Captain, Sam Escobar opened the scoring in the first half and Senior, Micaela Villafuerte, added two second half goals to capture the win!

Great job to girls water polo with 3 wins at The Valley Tournament. Leading the stat books for Barons are: Vicky with 13 goals, Brooke with 24 blocks, and Skylar with 13 assists and 12 steals.

Your girls Varsity Basketball team came out strong last night with a nine to zero start but could not hold on to that lead.  In the end your barons lost. Outstanding contributions were led by junior, Caitlin Okawa with 9 points and 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.  Senior Kat Luu contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomore Zoe Ziegler came off the bench to grab 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Please join us for our next game Thursday night when we take on Katella at home.

The girls varsity cross country team finished second in the surf division over the weekend advancing to CIF once again. The Barons were led by Kaho Cichon who ran 18:02 for three miles finishing first in the division. She was followed closely by her teammate Maddie Jashan running 18:22. The rest of the top 5 were composed of Leah Ferris, Sam Martinez, and Ellie Peterson.

The eSports Overwatch Gold Team dominated their match against Sage Hill High School going 2-0 and Blue Team won their match against Laguna Hills High School

On Friday, the Fountain Valley Barons fell 56-7 in a devastating loss against the Edison Chargers. This game was the 50th match-up of the annual bell game and marked the 15th consecutive loss for the barons. 

Our Barons beat St. Margarets Academy in the first round and Rosary High School in the Second round.  Now we host the third round at home on Wednesday, October 30th against Paloma Valley at 6pm!

10/23:

The Fountain Valley Royal Regiment placed 2nd with an 83.0 at the Capistrano Valley Field Tournament this past weekend. This is the highest score for the band at this point in their season in over a decade. In addition to their upcoming performance at the Bell Game, the band will continue their competitive season in a couple weeks at Westminster HS

10/18:

Yesterday on the Hank Cochrane Football Field, the Freshman Baron Football team fell to the Sea Kings of Corona Del Mar. The Barons started off slow but picked up the intensity and fought together until the final horn.

On Wednesday, the Varsity Girls Golf team dominated Corona Del Mar. The team shot an even par 180, their second best score ever.  Yesterday, your Girls beat Los Alamitos to earn a share of their first EVER Sunset League Title. The Barons shot a school record 2 under par 178 to win by five. Sophomore Madison Le led the way with the three under par 33. Misty Le and Milan Nguyen each carded a 34. Anh Nguyen, Heather Thinh, and Quyen Huynh also played well for the Barons.

Congratulations to the Fountain Valley Royal Regiment for taking 2nd place in Class 4A with a score of 76.4 at Ayala High School this past Saturday. The Royal Regiment also received the award for best percussion.

10/16:

Last Saturday the Band traveled to Ayala HS in Chino Hills.  In the 4A division, your Barons took another 2nd place silver finish.  A special award was also received for highest score in percussion.  Fountain Valley’s current scores place them in the top 5 in the state.  Scores count toward WBA state championships.  

All Girls’ Volleyball Teams swept Marina last night! Girls Varsity Volleyball is going to first round of CIF! The team swept Marina, earning a second place finish in the Wave Division!  Standouts were Senior Sadie Templin who killed it on the right side with 5 kills. Senior & Captain Phoebe Minch was aggressive on the service line with 2 aces, while front row she dominated, finishing the night with 12 kills. Senior Jenna Peterson, also put away balls and scored points on the outside for the Barons finishing with 5 kills and 4 digs. Junior, Juliette Bokor was a force to be reckoned with in the middle, tallying 9 kills and 3 blocks. Sophomore, Zoe Ziegler was impossible to hit around finishing the game with 7 blocks and 2 kills. Junior, Lauren Mena skillfully ran the Barons offense for the night, with 33 assists, earning 5 digs back row and 2 service aces.

Girls Varsity Volleyball swept Newport Harbor Monday night for the first time in 3 years!!!

Phoebe Minch was the Barons lead scorer with 18 kills throughout the night. Lauren Mena ran the offense, finishing the night with 32 assists. While Rachel Lucie took control of the back row and tallied herself 10 digs. The team will play Laguna Thursday and Marina next week for a spot in CIF!

10/7:

Great job to Fountain Valley Royal Regiment, this past Saturday they competed in the Mission Viejo Field Show Tournament with their competition routine entitled “The Birds” based on the movie by Alfred Hitchcock.  Our Barons took 2nd place with a score of 74.  They received High Music and High Percussion Honors.

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity golf team for a dominating win over Corona Del Mar. For the 1st time in history, all 6 players shot under 40. Misty Le and Madison Le led the way with a 32. Heather Thinh, Milan Nguyen, Quyen Huynh and Anh Nguyen also played well for the Barons.

The Girl’s Cross Country team competed at the Dana Hills Invitational Saturday. The Barons were led by personal best performances from Maddie Jahshan 17:53, Kaho Cichon 18:17, Leah Ferris 18:38, Elllie Peterson 19:18, and Sam Martinez 18:53.

Congratulations to the varsity girls golf team for an impressive win over Newport Harbor. The team shot a 2 over par 182. The Barons were led by sophomore standout Madison Le who shot a 4 under par 32. Misty Le, Milan Nguyen, Anh Nguyen, Heather Thinh and Quyen Huynh all played well for the Barons.

On Saturday afternoon, the Barons’ cross country team raced at one of the most competitive cross country meets in the nation, the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic. With personal records (PRs) set across all levels, the team gave a strong performance at their second three-mile race of the season.

Congratulations to our Varsity Barons Football team on their Homecoming Victory 42 – 6 over Agoura.  Also shout out to our Band, Cheerleaders and Loud Crowd for their support!

Congratulations to the Varsity Girl’s Golf team for an impressive victory over Laguna Beach. The Barons were led by Misty Le and Madison Le who each carded a one under par 35. Junior Quyen Huynh shot a career best 37 to help the team to victory. Good luck against Marina on Thursday.

9/16:

Congratulations to our Varsity Football team for their win over South Gate last Friday.  The Barons Offense and Defense turned out stellar performances to secure a 47-0 victory over the Rams. QB Jimmy Russell completed 4 touchdowns, two to Blake Anderson and one a piece to Drew Reyes and James Martinez.  Meanwhile, the Barons dominated in the run game, rushing for over 200 yards with Tanner Ciok leading the team in rushing and scoring 2 rushing touchdowns. Homecoming game this week is against Agoura at HBHS. Come out and join the Loud Crowd to show your support!

9/13:

The freshman football team lost a hard fought game to Downey yesterday, but the team is looking to rebound next week and get a victory over Agoura High School.  Blue Pride!

On Friday, our girls’ varsity volleyball team lost against the Edison Chargers with a score of 0-3 in the game of the week and their first league game.
