Easy and quick Halloween costume ideas

By Monika Gerges, Staff Writer

With Halloween coming up next month, everyone has already started preparing for their Halloween costumes. Everyone is so frantic to decide what to dress up as when there are so many ideas out there.

If you are one of those people that are extremely indecisive and cannot decide what to be for Halloween, here are some costume ideas inspired by the new trends, movies and TV shows of this year.

  1. A Group Costume from “Stranger Things”

Netflix’s hit show “Stranger Things” is one of the most-watched series of all time. This past July, season three of the show came out, and along with it came iconic outfits for each character. One costume that is especially significant is Eleven’s outfit from episode four. To replicate her outfit, find an oversized short-sleeve button down filled covered in paint splatters, high-waisted mom jeans, blue suspenders and a yellow scrunchie. You can also gather five of your friends and dress up as all the kids from the show. A cool couples costume could be Mike and Eleven, or if you want to dress up with your best friend, you can be Eleven and she can be Max. For Max’s outfit, you look in your closet for denim shorts and a yellow tank top. You can easily do the same with any of the characters’ outfits and mix and match within the friend group. Have fun exploring the Upside Down!

2. Jasmine from “Aladdin2019

Another idea inspired by a popular movie from this year is to dress up as Jasmine from Disney’s “Aladdin.” While Jasmine’s cultural attire from the movie is more intricate and difficult to obtain than other characters such as Eleven, feel free to take a modern spin on the outfit and make it your own. For example, you can find a small stuffed tiger to be your own Rajah, Jasmine’s trusty sidekick. Other ways to make the costume unique is to incorporate Jasmine’s hair and colors from her clothes in your costume, doing so in a way that will give the appearance that you are dressed up as Jasmine while not being too extreme. An easy way to do this is to wear an entire outfit with turquoise colors and replicate Jasmine’s iconic hair by doing a single braid with loops. Try to include certain pieces of jewelry that Jasmine wore, such as a necklace with a blue pendant, because that will tie in the entire look together.

3. Aladdin from “Aladdin” 2019

To go along with the last costume, another costume you can wear on Halloween night is Aladdin’s outfit from the same movie. Aladdin’s costume is quite unique, but an easy way to replicate it is by wearing any striped black and white long sleeve button down along with a red vest and beige pants. For the finishing touch, see if you can find a small stuffed monkey and a lamp. For a fun couples’ costume idea, you and your significant other could dress up as Jasmine and Aladdin. Bring along a magic flying carpet and have fun exploring a whole new world!

4. VSCO Girl

One of the biggest trends at the moment, the VSCO girl look has taken the social media world by storm. This costume is the easiest to replicate and the simplest one to plan for. For this costume, all you need is a large oversized tee that goes up to the thighs with a simple pair of shorts underneath. For shoes, make sure to wear any type of sandals, such as Birkenstock sandals, Nike Air Force 1’s or even any pair of Vans. Along with that, include a Hydro Flask and metal straws. As for accessories, make sure to wear lots of scrunchies and have a messy bun hairstyle for your hair. You may also want to carry a Fjallraven Kanken backpack. VSCO girls wear lots of friendship bracelets and Puka shell necklaces, both which can be purchased, easily from Amazon for less than five dollars.

5. E-girl

Another popular trend for the past few months is the e-girl and e-boy. Wear a dark t-shirt with a long-sleeve shirt underneath, preferably striped, dark pants, a black belt and dark make-up or accessories. Such accessories include a chain belt, black and white barrette clips or a lock and chain necklace. The overall vibe of your outfit should be dark and edgy.

6. Woody from “Toy Story 4”

“Toy Story 4” came out last June, and ever since its release people have been loving the final adaption to the series. Dressing up as Woody, an iconic character from the series, is both easy and a great representation of one of the biggest movies of 2019. In order to replicate Woody’s look, wear a yellow plaid shirt, a red bandana, a cowboy hat and a cow patterned vest (if you can find one). Finish off the look with classic blue jeans and brown cowboy boots.

7. Simba from “The Lion King”

Since “The Lion King” live-action was one of the most anticipated movies of the year, a simple costume idea is dressing up as Simba in a cute and effortless way. Instead of buying a lion costume online, simply wear an all beige outfit and get a plain headband with felt attachments to resemble the lion’s mane. Draw whiskers and a nose on your face to look more like a lion.

There you have it! These were just seven simple costume ideas you can recreate based on current trends from this season. An easy way to create these costumes effortlessly instead of buying them from a package is to dig through your local thrift store and find some pieces that work with the costume. This way, you can save money and also have fun while designing and creating your costume.
