The Fountain Valley High School House of Representatives meeting convened on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 9:10 a.m in an attempt to answer student questions on a variety of subjects, including COVID-19 protocols and campus life.

The meeting began with a discussion of the upcoming winter formal. Despite rising COVID cases, winter formal will still occur, with tickets being sold from Jan. 24 through Jan. 28.

Students can also expect a winter sports rally to be occurring sometime in the next few weeks during lunch.

Many class representatives also had questions regarding quarantine guidelines and safety procedures.

Associated Student Body (ASB) responded that students must quarantine for 10 days after a positive COVID test before returning to school.

The school will not be shutting down as there has been a gradual decline from 20% to 10% in absences over the week. At-school COVID testing is also highly recommended.

The cafeteria and lunch distribution was another key focus of the meeting. The cafeteria will start providing more chips with the meals, and lunch carts might be back in the near future to distribute lunches outside the cafeteria. ASB and the class representatives also discussed ways to make lunch lines shorter.

The next subject brought up was campus life. As confirmed previously, Barons All Together Time will remain mandatory, but teachers will have the option of presenting it in class before or after the break as opposed to during.

One representative brought up the possibility of students being permitted to wear alternative PE clothes. However, the meeting did not come to a conclusive decision about the matter.

Vending machine contracts between the school and food companies are also ending soon. Students might see an increase in stocks of ice cream and water in vending machines.

From campus life, the discussion transitioned to the administration office. The office will be opening up in a few weeks after the recent closure due to COVID-19. Students in need of administrative help may be able to visit in the coming weeks.
