On Wednesday, the boys soccer team went up against the Corona del Mar (CdM) Sea Kings and lost with the score of 1-2.

“I was hoping to get the seniors one last win [for the] last game of the season,” junior Devin La Clair said. “We all wanted to come out, play a good game [and] have a good end of the season even though the season was rather rough, and obviously it didn’t go our way, but I’m still proud of everyone with how they played and how strong we battled the whole season.”

The first half of the game consisted of back and forth play with multiple throw ins and corner kicks from both Barons and Sea Kings.

With twenty minutes left on the clock, the Sea Kings tried to make a goal, however it went wide and missed. The Sea Kings tried again a minute later but this time, it was caught by junior goalie Maximo Garcia.

The Barons attempted to make multiple goals throughout the first half. They eventually scored at six minutes when a corner kick by freshman Nolan Olivares allowed sophomore Jacob Cortez to make a goal.

The first half ended in a score of 1-0.

The second half started with the Sea Kings trying to make a goal, which ultimately was too wide. The rest of the Sea Kings’ shots failed due to the Barons’ strong defense; Garcia was at the forefront of the Barons’ defense and successfully defended the goal on numerous occasions.

Though, the Sea Kings also maintained a strong defense. The Barons attempted to make goals, but were blocked every time.

After a couple minutes of intense back and forth play that led to La Clair and other players injured on the field, the Sea Kings scored a goal with ten minutes left on the clock.

The Barons fought hard and attempted to make another goal, however, it was caught by the Sea King goalie.

The second half ended with a tie, causing the the game to go into over time.

Senior Masin Marini tried to make a goal at seven minutes, but it was once again caught by the Sea King goalie. The Sea Kings would then make a goal at three minutes, finalizing the score to be 1-2.

“My hope [was to] score more than one goal because we’ve only scored more than one goal in one game this season and we’ve been getting better so I was really hoping to take one. We have zero wins in League for the first time as long as I can remember,” assistant coach Jonathon Lloyd said.

With this loss, their season is now over with a record of 2-10-4 overall and 0-6-1 in the Sunset League.
