On Tuesday night, girls volleyball played the Edison Chargers and raised money to help spread cancer awareness.

The traditional Think Pink theme was traded in for tie-dye, as all cancers were represented this year. The volleyball program held a bake sale, raising over $1,000 by the end of the night.

“My favorite part was definitely seeing so many people in tie die supporting our cancer awareness night,” said varsity player Brennan Cutrell (’16).

Although the Lady Barons prepared for their big match against one of FV’s biggest rivals, they lost 0-3, with scores 13-25, 10-25, and 12-25.

“I think the game didn’t go the way we predicted it to be,” said varsity player Ashley Rogers (’15). “We got too much into our heads, and ultimately we were our worst enemies. If we could’ve kept the energy up and encouraged one another to stay focused and have a positive mindset, we could’ve taken Edison.”

Outside hitter Valerie Holler (’15) scored several kills throughout the match, and setter Liz Byrnes (’15) made consistent assists in offense.

Tough serves were passed effortlessly by libero Ari Jacoben (’15), who also played solid defense during the night.

“I think [the rest of the season] will be great because we have amazing players with awesome chemistry, and if we work together we can accomplish anything—even [getting] into CIF,” stated Rogers.
