You may see junior Katelynn Luu around campus making new friends, studying for advanced classes or creating the newest Instagram post. Her bubbly, charismatic personality makes a bold presence.
Entering her second year in Baron Banner, Luu takes on the role of being the Social Media Manager (SMM) for the class. As SMM, Luu is in charge of maintaining all of Baron Banner’s social media accounts and providing up-to-date information.
“I learned a lot in this class; it taught me a lot of social skills through interviewing and I feel like I speak so much more confidently now,” Luu said.
Luu’s journey through journalism has sprouted greatly through the year of experience she has built. Trying every role possible, she has added many abilities under her belt while in Baron Banner.
“I initially joined as a writer, but eventually I branched out and then I started by taking sports photos for water polo, and then eventually I gained the confidence to start photographing events like the Chick Fil-A basketball game last year,” Luu said.
Luu’s outgoing personality can easily be noticed around campus. She strives to make new friends and meet new people from classes and clubs that she participates in. With a busy schedule, she strives in taking advanced courses to push her academic abilities.
“I think every single person has a new perspective to offer and more stories to share. And I love learning new things from new people,” Luu said.
Knitting and sewing in her free time, Luu keeps herself busy. Repairing clothes and other items for her family members is an easy task. If she doesn’t have anything to sew, you can catch her reading or formulating a new creative writing.
Luu highlights the strong tie to her family she has. When asked about what shaped who she is today, she responds, “I think [my sister] taught me a lot of stuff. I joined a lot of activities because she joined them and then we ended up like ‘oh, be together. It’s convenient.’ I think I’ve had a lot of life experiences and I’ve learned how to do a lot of stuff – that I think has shaped me and my goals and my hobbies,” Luu said.
Luu looks forward to a busy junior year full of activities and events that will further prepare her for a prosperous future.
