When you walk through the door of Baron Banner, the smile of a kind student greets you. A student who isn’t shy to help new writers and photographers adjust to the storm that is Baron Banner. That student is Reese Meister.

Newly editor-in-chief, Meister began her story as a writer with modest beginnings. During her sophomore year, Meister knew she wanted to try something new and listened to the advice of her older sister to become a reporter.

“I was super scared. I wasn’t very confident in my writing abilities. But I wanted to be a writer.” Meister said.

A writer she wanted, a writer she became. Meister, however, had a rough start as an introvert. She struggled to initiate and interview her teachers and especially strangers.

Nevertheless, she pursued a career as a news writer with a goal in mind to provide accurate local news that can’t be found anywhere else.

Now, Meister is an integral part of the community, always running around interviewing and writing stories. Part of the varsity swim and water polo team, Meister is always the first to write about their wins and losses.

As editor-in-chief, she hopes to promote an inclusive and respectful community where people value each other. Meister inherited her emphasis on kindness, compassion and respect from her parents, which she wishes to pass on to others.

When asked what inspires her, without a thought, it is her family. Meister looked towards her sister for advice and support, walking the same path that she has.

“I’m very thankful for [my sister] because she has to do all the hard stuff first. And she’s always helping me through what she has already gone through,” Meister said.

In addition to her sister, Meister looks up to her mother. Her mother, a librarian, passed onto her a love for reading. Ever since she first learned to read, she would be seen with a book in hand. Meister enjoys reading historical and realistic fiction for entertainment. Through observing different writings, Meister learns to better communicate ideas and prioritize information. She wants to deliver news that is as concise and bias free as possible.

In her last year of high school, Meister wants to live freely. In her previous years, she burdened herself unnecessarily with stress, but now she wants to take and enjoy her time and classmates. She will mentor Baron Banner staff through learning and improving their writing throughout the year with the hopes of knowing everyone better.
