Whether she’s swimming laps in the pool or journaling about her day, her hard work in both her academics and extracurricular activities says it all. As an aspiring writer for Baron Banner, freshman Kayla Nguyen wishes to have an outlet for her love of reading and writing.

“I want to expand my knowledge on [writing] and learn more about what I like,” Nguyen said. “I also want to get involved in the school community.”

Outside of her creative hobbies, she also enjoys swimming competitively and has been in the sport for over seven years, more than half her life. As her number one source of joy, swimming has a special place in Nguyen’s heart because of both the people and the experience.

“It’s a way to release my stress … I really feel in the moment and I don’t have to think about anything else,” Nguyen said. “It’s my safe space to reset myself.”

When asked about her source of inspiration, Nguyen describes only one person: her sister, who motivates her to achieve greater things.

“My role model is my sister because she’s really ambitious and hardworking. I can definitely see her achieving the things she works towards,” Nguyen said.

As a freshman in high school, Nguyen wants to explore different experiences, meet new people and have “the freshman experience.” Her hardworking character is her shining trait, displayed in essentially every aspect of her life. With a life motto of “No pain, no gain,” nothing can stop Nguyen from achieving whatever she wants.

“[In ten years], I want to be in medical school … I want to be successful and independent so I don’t have to rely on anyone else to make me happy,” Nguyen said.

With her hardworking nature and kindness, it’s no doubt that she’ll change the world for the better. Her determination is truly what makes her special among so many others.

“My future motivates me to live a life with fulfillment. I don’t want to look back and think ‘I regret not having good experiences,’” Nguyen said.
