While Taylor Swift sings “Look What You Made Me Do,” junior Candice Tran says “Look What I Can Create,” with her stellar photography and designs. Whether creating carefully crafted illustrations or taking detailed photographs, you can be sure Tran is busy making Baron Banner great. Working hard as a photographer and illustrator, Tran has said her favorite part of Baron Banner is the artistic freedom it offers.
“I like the fact that you can do anything you want, whether that’s writing or taking photos,” Tran said. “I personally like it when illustrating, whether that’s my own comics or for other articles.”
Tran also serves as Baron Banner’s designer-in-chief, working hard to make sure our newspaper’s layout is the best it can be. Her keen sense of aesthetics and attention to detail transform Baron Banner’s articles into visually stunning pieces.
Tran was initially introduced to Baron Banner through her cousin, who was in the class a few years ago. Now the designing editor for Baron Banner, Tran’s hard work has paid off.
Beyond the newsroom, Tran is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. Her skills, dedication and sportsmanship make her a vital asset, as she balances her commitments to both the newspaper and her team.
In her free time, Tran enjoys watching Gilmore Girls and channeling her creativity through drawing. In the future, she has her sights set on a career in astronomy.
Her favorite class is AP U.S. History, where she enjoys learning about our nation’s history and important figures such as Alexander Hamilton. A fan of the popular “Hamilton” musical as well, the historical figure she would most like to meet is Hamilton, finding his life and contributions interesting.
“I would say that for photographers, designers, [and] illustrators starting out, don’t worry about being super skilled right off the bat because it takes a lot of time and practice, and it’s okay to ask for help or advice,” Tran says. “Don’t rush the process either.”
