Whether she’s caught up in a book, pole vaulting for track and field or just hanging out, junior Caroline Mora’s cheerful and supportive personality never fails to show.

One of her biggest interests is reading, typically of fantasy romance. In fact, she is an extremely avid reader. On a free day in the summer, she might read for 12 hours or could knock down a 900 page book in about four days. Occasionally, she likes to write about the books she’s read, random stories, or whatever crosses her mind.

As an incoming writer for Baron Banner, Mora hopes to reach out and explore different interests by writing features, working on her communication and interviewing skills, and building overall confidence.

“It’s something new,” Mora said. “I wanted to branch out again and break out of my cycle that I had.”

Mora credits part of the reason for joining the newspaper to the new friends she’s made in track and field, having grown a tight community with the girls in her grade. She hopes to do the same with Baron News by connecting with more people.

In track and field, Mora does pole vault, 100 meter hurdles, and high jump. Her best event would be the pole vault. Besides the supportive community that surrounds the event, she loves pole vault in particular for its difficulty.

“It’s very technique-oriented and really hard,” Mora said. “It’s a challenge and I like to be able to challenge myself.”

Something else that Mora is very passionate about is womens’ rights, along with other social justice issues. Although she takes a quieter approach, simply trying to educate herself on every situation, she isn’t afraid to voice her opinions or discuss her views on the topic.

Alongside her friendly and humorous persona, Mora is also incredibly supportive and caring. She loves being around others and lending a hand, even taking the time to walk her neighbor’s dog every day.

“[In the future,] I would really love to do something to help people,” Mora said.
