“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has broken multiple box office records since its release, including top box office opening weekend of all time in the United States, topping “Jurassic World”. It seems like with each new Star Wars movie coming out, the cinematic phenomenon seems to not only woo their longtime fans, but also entice the new generation. However, despite its success, many critics are claiming that the newest film isn’t connecting with the new generation. These critics also say that the film did so well because it hit nostalgia with those who grew up with the original trilogy, not because it was a “good” movie. To test these critics’ theory, we went around asking a couple of Fountain Valley Barons if they believe there is an age gap between those who love Star Wars and those who aren’t as interested.

"There was an age gap, since the movies were so old, but now there isn't anymore because the newest movie is modernized to appeal to the newer generation." -Kathy Le ('16)

"I'm going to watch Star Wars. I think it's universal because it has been around for years. Even those back in Germany watch it; it's worldwide." -Paul Tinkl ('17).

"Star Wars is timeless, the old people might like the old trilogy, but the series is doing a great job integrating with the new generation by introducing new stuff like the Clone Wars series." -William Tran ('19)

"Every age group likes it, but just different things about it. Old people like the movies, but the younger people like the products like the legos." -Emmy Ly ('19)

"I'm not sure if there is an age gap. I wouldn't be surprised, but I think the new generation will be more into the new stuff." -Eric Nguyen ('18)
