CBS’s new comedy series 2 Broke Girls premiered last month, following the line of TV Fall schedules of new shows and season premieres.

Kat Denning takes on the role as Max Black, a bad-mouthed waitress who barely gets by, but is familiar with the shady streets of Brooklyn. She then meets Caroline Channing (played by Beth Behrs), a rich heiress who lost all her wealth due to her father’s disgraceful scandal.

For the time being, Caroline must work as a waitress, alongside Max, to take care of herself. At the same time, she has no choice but to adapt to the run-down city as she resides in Max’s apartment. Their friendship blossoms (although Max would deny any existence of one) as they find themselves involved in random and hilarious situations.

Each episode carries on with gains of money that will be used to in their funds to open up a cupcake shop, as proposed by Caroline.

The show’s pilot premiered on September 19th, 2011. Like many other pilots, the episode started out a bit dull. The setting seems overdone and we find Caroline’s riches-to-rags situation to be a bit cliche. However, we already chuckle at Max’s blatant sarcasm and the restaurant owner, Han (played by Matthew Moy), portrays the stereotypical Asian whose antics bring amusement. The cook, Oleg (played by Jonathan Kite), exhibits an uncomfortable flirtation that allows us to laugh and relate to Caroline if we were in her place.

As the series progresses on, the show’s ratings rise, competing with top shows such as Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother. As you tune in, the show does get funnier; the situations more ironic, the characters more animated, and the plot line more sensible. Kat Dennings has improved Max’s character throughout the series and the chemistry between Max and Caroline grows stronger in each episode.

The show’s distinction of living life being broke and the now intangible idea of being rich is part of the source of the show’s humor. The rest is the memorable characters whose actors continue to improve on.

Tune in to 2 Broke Girls on Mondays at 8:30 on CBS!
