Rushin’ Clubs

One of the greatest things that Club Rush makes us realize is the enthusiasm of FVHS students. This does not just include the chanting between Key Club and Kiwins, but many of the other clubs as well. Even if the other clubs weren’t quite as loud about their clubs, they still emitted a sense of pride and dedication to their clubs.

This dedication is seen by the fact that board members of all clubs spent time making posters and buying grabbers to attract the attention of students and get them to join.

Barons from all clubs and associations left ten minutes early from their fourth periods and arrived late to fifth period. They made sure their tables were out and ready on time and available for students who wanted to join. But it doesn’t end there, as they also had the task of taking back the table and making sure everything was put back into place for the next day.

“Club rush was a great way to get our club out there,” says National Honor Society Co-President Rosie Toumanian (’12). “We must’ve gotten at least a hundred signatures in only one day. This is when the school year really starts for the clubs!”

The enthusiasm isn’t limited to just board members. If you asked a former FVHS student what clubs they wanted to join before fourth period on Wednesday, they would probably be able to list out some of the ones they enjoyed last year and wanted to rejoin.

Some students have been in clubs since freshman year because they enjoy them so much. The board members are not the only people making the clubs up, but members from previous years also contribute by joining again.

Not only are the old clubs recruiting members, but newer clubs also gain interest. New clubs keep club rush interesting by adding new types of activities or interests. Juniors or Seniors wouldn’t want to go around the bowl just because they already know all the clubs. But with new clubs, they may hear something and it can spark their interest enough to go look for the club and join it.

In all, Club Rush at Fountain Valley High School is a success for not only clubs, but for FVHS students because it broadens our horizons, helps us make new friends, and allows us to discover ourselves more.
