One of ABC Network’s newest TV shows, Pan Am, finally made its debut on Sept. 25th after many weeks of garnering the public’s attention and sparking their interest through countless commericials. This highly anticipated show is set during the 1960’s, the modern era when jet travel was glamorous, music of Frank Sinatra filled the air, and women had a sense of empowerment.

The plot is centered on four vivacious young women: Laura, Kate, Colette and Maggie; who all work for international air carrier, Pan American, as fancy stewardesses delivering manners and proper etiquette with grace and beauty.

They enjoy the benefits of traveling the world for free, exploring new places, and meeting new people – men in particular! The characters are also accompanied by two main male characters, Dean and Ted, who are young pilots.

Although the women’s current lives may be full of joy and freedom, they have dealt with rough and complicated pasts, and choosing Pan Am was an escape to a better and more hopeful future.

One of the characters first introduced is Laura, a golden-haired beauty who abandoned her pre-wedding and went against her mother’s wishes to instead pursue her dreams of seeing the world. She holds a clumsy and sensitive personality. Although she is a new member of Pan Am, her gorgeous face is quickly noticed and printed on the front cover of Life Magazine. However, she dislikes the attention and prefers to keep to herself.

Confident and focused is Kate, who is also the sister of Laura. She is mature and always guiding her sister in times of need. Being the less popular sibling isn’t always easy and sometimes, jealousy and frustration take over.

Out of all the Pan Am ladies, Colette, a sweet French woman, is the gentle and kind one. It’s hard not to fall for her natural looks and irresistible sense of style. She isn’t the heart-breaker. She’s the heart-breakee.

Needless to say, Pan Am has a character for everyone.

Last but not least is Maggie, feisty and full of humor. Although not always punctual, she is a dedicated stewardess and maintains her job as a purser. Not much is revealed about her past life in the first episode.

Needless to say, after watching episode one, I was ready for more. The story was already added with twists and turns, and the future that awaits each character is uncertain. Pan Am is more than just romance and elegance. It has humor, excitement, foreshadowing, lies, and unexpected secrets.

Pan Am is a fresh new adventure for those who wish to travel back in time and dive deeper into the era of the 1960s. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to other shows, gossip-worthy, and definitely worth a shot!

Pan Am airs Sundays at 10/9 central on ABC Network.
