As vacations and holidays approach, we often find trouble thinking of ways to spend our free time.  Many turn to places outside the city, such as Huntington Beach for less mundane forms of leisure since Fountain Valley doesn’t seem to offer much recreation.  However, contrary to popular belief, activities other than shopping, eating, texting, and surfing the internet can be done in Fountain Valley.  Here are a few examples:

  • Karaoke: Enjoy some much-needed fun by belting out your favorite lyrics with friends who won’t care how tone-deaf you are at places like Elvis! Karaoke Studios.
  • Fountain Valley Branch Library: Reading can be done in any setting, but the library provides a perfect peaceful environment to do so.
  • Heritage Park:  Get to know your city’s history.  Explore its roots.
  • Boomers!: This well-known amusement park is familiar to everyone.  Revisit your childhood here at your favorite rides.
  • Roller skating: Who needs ice when you can roller skate? Visit Fountain Valley Skating Center to have a blast skating with friends.
  • Bowling: Many say they’ve outgrown the joy that can be found in bowling, but this sport is actually timeless.  You’re never too old to bowl.  Visit the Fountain Bowl to partake in this classic activity.
  • Recreation in Mile Square Park:  There’s always something to do here, whether it be archery, which can also be done in Orange County Archery, sports, which can be done in the Fountain Valley Sports or the Mile Square Golf Course, jogging and bicycling, which can be done on the trails, feeding the ducks, which are scattered around the park, or fishing, which can be done around the ponds.
  • Beauty/Spa:  High school students have stress too.  Take a day off to get a massage.
  • Yoga or Tai Chi: Relax and spend a day in utter meditation and contemplation at studios such as the Orange County Tai Chi Studio.
  • Sports: Take part in your favorite sports at clubs such as the Los Caballeros Racquet & Sports Club, or do martial arts in dojos dispersed across the city.  There are dance studios such as the Beach Cities Stars, which holds a monthly Salsa Dance Social.
  • Visiting the Reptile Zoo:  Become acquainted with various reptiles, lizards, spiders, etc.
  • Performing Arts:  Watch or participate in the performing arts at places such as the Festival Ballet Theatre, the ClubHouse Academy, or the Saigon Performing Arts Center.
  • Attend Fountain Valley’s upcoming city events:  The Chocolate Festival recently took place, and the Tree Lighting Ceremony will happen early December.

The list goes on and on.  Don’t let time pass you by before exploring more of this city; there’s so much to do here!  There’s more to Fountain Valley than what lies on the exterior, so don’t waste away four humdrum years here, and then leave it behind without first discovering its charm.
