Winter Sports Update Week 3

Week 12/5-12/10

Girls Water Polo: (6-4-0)

Fountain Valley 5, San Marcos 12: Cal State Long Beach commit, Kayla Robert (’12) had 5 goals and Sandy Niemczyk (’14) had 12 saves against the Royals at Ocean View High School, but that was not enough to defeat San Marcos.

Fountain Valley 7, Mater Dei 19: During the girls’ first match in the Villa Park Classic, they faced the No. 8 ranked Mater Dei (3-0-0) and lost, but look forward to playing the Huntington Beach Oilers (4-1-0) tonight in the next round of the tournament.

Fountain Valley 5, Huntington Beach 9: Led by Kayla Robert (’12) and Jennifer Lightbody, the Barons scored 5 goals, but Huntington Beach offensive edged them by a mere 4 points to lead to the loss in the second round of the Villa Park Classic.

Fountain Valley 13, Mater Dei B 4: After 2 consecutive losses in the Villa Park Classic, the Barons finally won their first game against the Mater Dei B Team. Kayla Robert (’12), Jennifer Lightbody (’12), and Rachel Christiansen each had 3 steals to seal the victory. This week’s game of the week is against Northwood High School at Newport Harbor on Monday, December 12.

 

Boys Soccer: (2-1-1)

Fountain Valley 2, Lakeside 0: Ethan Morrow (’12) and Joseph Soliman (’12) each scored a goal against Lakeside of Elsinore. Also Joseph Loranger (’12) and Ryan Brown (’12) split halves for the shutout. They will face Katella (2-0-1) this Wednesday at 3:00PM.

 

Girls Soccer: (2-1-0)

Fountain Valley 1, Godinez 0: Dakota Griggs (’13) had a goal to edge the Grizzlies at Fountain Valley. Also goalie Allison Marlow (’15) had her second shutout of the season. They play Lakeside this Friday at Irvine High School at 7:45PM.

Fountain Valley 1, Lakeside 2: Sophia Rucker (’15) scored a goal once, but the team was edged by a late drive for Lakeside of Elsinore. They will continue onto the next round of the Irvine Team Challenge today against El Modena and Ayala at Hicks Park.

 

Boys Basketball: (6-1-0)

Fountain Valley  58, Valley Christian of Cerritos 38: Nathan Moss (’12) scored 12 points had 9 rebounds for the Barons. Sean Myers (’12) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds to take a win for the Barons. They will take on California High School today as they continue playing in the Valley Christian Tournament.

Fountain Valley 68, California 44: The Baron boys downs the California Grizzlies greatly at Valley Christian High School on Friday. Zach Richartz (’12) scored 16 points along with Sean Finley claiming 8 rebounds. They will play the Segerstrom Jaguars on December 19th at 6:00PM at Fountain Valley High School.

 

Girls Basketball: (2-1-0)

Fountain Valley 65, Schurr 60: Spartons down by 9 points could not defeat the Barons, who were led by Lora Bender (’14), who scored 20 points to edge the Schurr.

Fountain Valley 35, Huntington Beach 53: In the third round of the 14th Annual Hoops for Challenge, our Lady Baron girls challenged the Oilers, but lost. They will play in the consolation finals today against Esperanza at 12:00PM for 3rd place.
