Adventure Couple: Edition 2

Welcome to the next installment of Adventure Couple. This adventure is very nearby Fountain Valley and is best enjoyed on two wheels.

At the end of Slater (which borders FVHS), going to the west, the street ends abruptly into a gravel pathway that takes you to the Bolsa Chica Conservatory. The conservatory comprises of a very large expansive area of wetlands, most of which you can walk or bike through and some of which is protected. There are two directions to take once you go down the gravel pathway and climb a small but steep hill (it will take a little teamwork to get the bikes over the hump).

One way will be toward the north, where there is another larger hill with some pretty elaborate dirt jumps for groups of friends who are into bmx. This route also contains a lot of natural flora which turns a vibrant yellow in the spring and summer. Continuing along a path will also take you to a clear and smooth trail in front of Million Dollar houses that both you and your partner can venerate at.

The path dumps out to Warner on the other side. From there you can go to the beach (either Sunset or State), the harbor, get some food (Subway, pizza, vegan, Sushi), or even go back down a different trail down the real Bolsa Chica Wetlands, which has spectacular views of the Pacific and connects to our other route.

Now going back to that first hill you have to climb. If you look toward the Ocean there will be a large stretch of flat land in front of you, this land is essentially all of Bolsa Chica. There are walking paths all throughout the area that run parallel alongside the state beach. The paths are all dirt and surround the wetland area where there are small fish nurturing to go into the ocean and a wide array of bird species. As always, with the fantastic views, it would be a particularly good idea to bring a camera.

If you and your partner are into community service, there are also many chances to volunteer at the Wetlands. Sealeaf, a club at our school, often has a group which participates in cleaning and taming the environment on the weekends.

The Bolsa Chica wetlands make for a great nature walk with enough dirt to make it an adventure and enough great views to make it a very memorable and enjoyable experience. The animal life is diverse and the landscape is a well-preserved and a truly golden portion of Huntington Beach.

If traveling by bike, we suggest the 10-15 minute ride down Sunset Beach to Harbour House for lunch. The cafe is located by the large Water Tower hotel.

We hope you and whoever you bring on your adventure are able to connect with each other and reconnect with nature. There’s a lot to explore and a nice cool-off at the beach that’s only a block away!

So here are the directions to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, remember most of the park is for bikes and Walking…
