Friends With Kids tells the story of a group of six thirty-somethings dealing with the aftermaths of having children. They promise each other that when they have kids, they won’t change as people.
Several years later, their tight-knit group of friends is no longer as close and they rarely see each other anymore. The oddballs of the group are Jason (played by the endearing Adam Scott), and Julie (Jennifer Westfeldt, who directed the movie). They play a pair of best friends who don’t have children but decide to raise a baby together while simultaneously dating other people.
Once again, the advertising executives were trying to trick you. This is not a funny movie. Despite the fact that the cast is made up of famous comedy actors, this movie will make you cry and curl up into a ball and wish you had a baby you could raise with your friends.
The movie was advertised as a reaction to Bridesmaids. It is not. Friends With Kids attempts to ride on the coattails of another movie’s success, but there’s nothing wrong with that, because this isn’t a Bridesmaids sequel at all. It’s a completely separate movie in itself, and a great one at that.
