Pep Squad Raffles off 2012 Toyota Prius

FVHS’s Pep Squad’s 2012 Toyota Prius Give-a-Way was held on March 2, 2012, in the Bowl 10 minutes after the last dismissal bell.  The lucky winner of the 2012 Toyota Prius was Mary Swain of Huntington Beach, California.

Two cash prizes of $2,000 and $1,000 were also raffled off the same day.

Swain held little significant ties with any members of the pep squad; she merely heard of the raffle through a parent that attends the same gym she frequents and bought a ticket through there. She only had to worry about insurance fees for the car; the first year’s DMV fees and taxes were already covered.

Each ticket was $100, and they were sold to anyone with a license all across the country, including New York, Virginia, and Oklahoma.  Tickets were sold from October 31, 2011, to March 2, 2012, at 12:00PM through the front administration office, by mail (to FVHS Pep Boosters), through Ms. Munoz, at football and basketball games and at Bingo games.

The $31,000 raised will finance FVHS’s Cheer and Song team.

The general manager of Penske Toyota of Downey, a friend of a relative of a member of the Pep Squad,  was generous enough to donate the Prius to the Pep Squad, free of charge, and granted them the opportunity to hold such a rare fundraiser.

“We are forever grateful for [Penske Toyota of Downey],” said Ms. Munoz, Pep Squad advisor.  “It literally was an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us and we are forever grateful that we now have this extra reserve of money that we can use to help us in the future.  It’s not something that’s going to go to pay off our program, but definitely going to help in times of need.”
