Girls Swim Paces to 7th Place

On Friday, May 18th, the girls swim team returned to the CIF-SS Division 1 Championships at Riverside City College for finals with top seeds in both individual and relay events. Overall, the girls racked up 133.5 points to place 7th out of 42 schools.

To start off the meet, Edison’s Devin Newton (’14) edged Fountain Valley’s Jaime Dang (’13) who placed 7th  in the 200-yard IM by a difference of almost a second with a time of 2:05.16.

Taylor Johnson(’12) tied with Westlake’s Savannah Miller (’12)  for 8th , posting a time of 23.76. Johnson was slightly edged for 3rd, which was only ten-hundredths of a second.

Dang sprinted through the 100-yard butterfly to a sizzling time of 56.47 to tie with University’s Breanna Tran (’14) for 5th.

Johnson also displayed another magnificent sprint by scorching a time of 52.09 in the 100-yard freestyle to tie for 9th with Woodbridge’s Dayae Choi (’12).

Our lady Barons entered into the 200-yard freestyle relay seeded 3rd behind JSerra and University. Dang started off the relay with a sizzling 24.48, Sarah Yao (’14), Jennifer Schulman (’13), and Taylor Johnson completed the rest of the relay to edge Santa Margarita with a time of 1:37.71. During the last leg of the relay, Johnson sprinted to a 23.20 split, which is a second place time in the 50-yard freestyle.

Towards the end of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, consisting of Dang, Schulman, Yao, and Johnson, placed 7th after edging the next best school by six-hundredths of a second.

The girls will strive to improve upon the 2012 season and place higher at next year’s CIF-SS Division 1 Championships. With such a young and talented team, the Barons will remain successful even through the absence of San Diego State commit, Taylor Johnson.
