Homecoming “Dash” Detailed

K-1 Speed (pictured above) is this year’s dance venue.

Homecoming is only a few weeks away, and Barons are getting pumped up.The 2012 theme is “A Dash to the Dance Floor,” and this year the dance commissioners are mixing things up a bit.

Emily Tran (’13), one of the Homecoming directors, said, “One of the things that people remember most when looking back on High School are the formal dances. The purpose of Homecoming should be making memories, spending time with friends and loved ones, and having fun.”

This year’s budget for Homecoming is approximately $5,200, a big increase from last year’s $4,000. This is due to the variety of activities planned for the dance. “There is going to be intelligent lighting, a 36-foot video wall, dance platforms, and the best DJ company spinning for us!” Tran said.

Unlike the usual homecoming tradition, commissioners are promoting attending the dance stag. “We really wanted to encourage everyone to go to Homecoming this year, whether or not they have a date,” said Tran. “This year we are offering activities like racing, casino tables, arcade games, and pool tables.” There will also be a dessert bar with unlimited snacks and beverages.

With activities like go-kart racing, girls should consider wearing wedges or flats so they can enjoy the fun of the activities without having sore feet by the end of the night. It’s suggested to bring some shoes to have some fun.

Tran hopes this year’s Homecoming will be a big hit with the students.  “I certainly hope that everyone enjoys himself or herself at Homecoming and that they’ll remember this night for the rest of their lives.”

Homecoming 2012 will take place at K1 Speed in Irvine on Saturday, October 13th, from 8 PM to midnight. Tickets for Homecoming will be on sale from October 8th -11th.
